How do you stop words from being split across two lines in Word 2010?

Help please, have installed Word 2010 and cannot work out why the words get split at the end of a line, leaving half the word on one line and the other half getting pushed onto the next.  Any ideas much appreciated!

The same problem with Microsoft Word can be solved by the following steps:

1- Close Word

2- Navigate to Start->Programs->Microsoft Office->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Language Preference

3- Add Japanese

4- Open Word

5- In right Click menu: Select Paragraph...

6- Go to the "Asian Typography" Tab.

7- Deselect: "Allow Latin text to wrap in the middle of a word"

8- Click OK

The problem will be solved. Now if you don't want to have Japanese you can remove it from:

Start->Programs->Microsoft Office->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Language Preference

I have found the solution (a little late, yes, but useful nowadays since no one was able to figure it out). It has to do with the Japanese language support (I don't know why, but it is like that). I found the solution here: http://www.mraggarwal.com/2007/05/11/powerpoint-word-wrap-splitting-words-down-the-middle/ I hope it helps to the people having this issue and I also hope that Microsoft takes a look at this weird issue.

Word should not split words like that. It suggests a serious bug with the printer driver. Try switching printers or updating your existing printer driver.

    I found that this almost got me there. The installing Japanese Language support works, I know there is instructions on one of these sites regarding Japanese Language features on Powerpoint, but you can mimic those instructions to install it in Word.

    Then, you have to highlight the paragraph (or text) that is broken, ie where the words are split on multiple lines, then right click, select "Paragraph" and if you installed the Japanese Language Support you should have a tab that says "Asian Typography" You need this tab.

    In that tab, the second box says something like "Allow Latin Text to Wrap Mid-Word" check this and uncheck it. Make sure that it is unchecked in the end, but you may need to check it just to trigger it and then uncheck it. Don't forget to click "ok"

    This works on all text I've had that's been split onto two lines, and as long as that box remains unchecked (because who in their right mind would ever check it in the first place?) then future text should not get split.

    When I found this out I created an account just to post this so I hope that this helps someone.
