How do you stop words from being split across two lines in Word 2010?

Help please, have installed Word 2010 and cannot work out why the words get split at the end of a line, leaving half the word on one line and the other half getting pushed onto the next.  Any ideas much appreciated!

The same problem with Microsoft Word can be solved by the following steps:

1- Close Word

2- Navigate to Start->Programs->Microsoft Office->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Language Preference

3- Add Japanese

4- Open Word

5- In right Click menu: Select Paragraph...

6- Go to the "Asian Typography" Tab.

7- Deselect: "Allow Latin text to wrap in the middle of a word"

8- Click OK

The problem will be solved. Now if you don't want to have Japanese you can remove it from:

Start->Programs->Microsoft Office->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Language Preference

I have found the solution (a little late, yes, but useful nowadays since no one was able to figure it out). It has to do with the Japanese language support (I don't know why, but it is like that). I found the solution here: http://www.mraggarwal.com/2007/05/11/powerpoint-word-wrap-splitting-words-down-the-middle/ I hope it helps to the people having this issue and I also hope that Microsoft takes a look at this weird issue.

Word should not split words like that. It suggests a serious bug with the printer driver. Try switching printers or updating your existing printer driver.

    With nonprinting marks displayed, a nonbreaking space would appear as a degree symbol. Based on your description, that is what you had in your document. You can search for nonbreaking spaces by entering Ctrl+Shift+SpaceBar in the Find box of the Find & Replace dialog box (Ctrl+H).

    It took me forever to figure this out, but my issue was that the spaces between the words were not a hard space, but something else that had come from working collaboratively with someone using Word on the Mac while I am using Word 2016 on a PC.

    By turning on the show paragraph/special-symbols in the Paragraph tool bar you can see the difference between the special space and a hard space. I copied the special space that was causing the problem and did a replace-all to use a hard space (just hit the space bar on the PC) instead of the special space. 

    Once all the "special" space symbols were replaced with the hard space all the word wrap worked as expected. No more words breaking across lines in the table.
