Old Style Word Art in Word 2010?

Could anyone tell me whether it is possible to insert Word Art similar to that in versions of MS Word from 2003 and before?  The Word Art in MS Word 2010 only seems to appear in straight lines, whereas I would sometimes prefer to have the writing in the style of a curved banner?  Have MS just removed this option, oram I looking in the wrong place? It just doesn't seem to be an option? Thanks. P.S, I know the text can be offset at an angle, but clicking on the small green circle, but I want the writing to curve?

Word 2010's WordArt is a bit more powerful than you suspect, I believe. Insert a WordArt object, then, in Drawing Tools - Format, look at Text Effects - Transform. Does that give you what you want?

If not, you can still get the old style. Save the file in Word 2003 format, and now when you choose Insert - WordArt, you'll see the legacy choices.

    You're right. As I quickly discovered, having even the Format tab with WordArt Styles got me nowhere except with already WordArt-styled text, which I could use WordArt Tools to manipulate in 2010 but only such text. Well, I am a step or two ahead of where I was, thanks to good adivce.

    Yes.  Maybe I didn't understand your question.  What you've done will let you apply an old WordArt style to an existing old WordArt object in a document.  It won't, unless I'm not an old enough dog to see the trick, let you insert an old WordArt style in a new Word2010 document or apply and old WordArt style to an new WordArt object.  You've could combine what you've done with the building block method I've used and get pretty good control over the whole thing though.

    I would like to know that too - would be nice to be able to click on WordArt and get the same options as in 2003 and 2007.

    To create the old style WordArt, create a document in the 2003 format. Insert the WordArt (the old styles will be inserted).  Copy the WordArt into the desired document.  You will then be able to modify the WordArt with the WordArt Tools Format ribbon.
