Do you mean within a cell with text wrapping turned on? You can only change the font size, you have no direct control over line spacing within a cell.

If you mean between cells, you can change the row height, of course.

    MS should provide the line spacing tool provided in Word. This is a no-brainer.

    Hey, MS, PLEASE give us the line spacing commands for Excel, same as Word!!!  I have Microsoft 8 and it seems that the spacing between lines was smaller in my previous version.

    I haven't found a way to directly alter line spacing in Excel, but here are a couple of suggestions.

    If you have this problem:

       EMPLOYEE

     

            NAME           

    Right click on your cell and choose "format cell".  On the "Number" tab, set the category to text. On the "alignment" tab, set the "Horizontal" to general, and the "Vertical" to top.

    I tried this - all it does when changing the Horizontal allignment from 'center" to 'general' is to left justify it.

    sigh.

    It really would be useful for large spreadsheets to tighten up spacing between lines - it takes up too much white space.  Especially for column/row headers

    Nope, didn't work for me.  I would love to reinstall an older version and test this out.  I KNOW it used to be a simple formatting issue.  This string has expanded quite a bit since I last checked... Microsoft simply needs to fix this one for us.

    I was able to change to single line spacing by typing Arial1 in the font block and pressing enter.
