I upgraded from Office 2007 to 2010 two weeks ago. Whenever I open up documents in Print Layout View that were created under earlier versions of Word (2000, 2003, 2007), Word replaces several of the fonts with something that looks like Arial bold.Sometimes it changes just the title fonts, sometime the entire body font--it's not always the same phenomenon in each document.
The Font window on the Home tab still shows the name of the original font being used in the document, but the screen does not show that font--it just shows whatever it replaces the font with. Repeat: even though the screen in showing a different font, the Font window on the Tab Screen shows the name of the font the document should be showing.
When I change to Draft View, the fonts all display properly, but I need the correct fonts in the Print Layout to show because the bogus font that Word substitutes throws off the accuracy of what I'm looking at.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I solved this problem by saving the troublesome file in what 2010 calls "compatability mode>"
Eutactic, I finally tried this solution. I really was not comfortable deleting everything under \Office, but after backing up the registry, I gave it a try. So far it seems to have worked. I will be finishing an important project during the week, so I will have daily opportunities to see how this holds up.

I believe I have solved this problem by simply backing up and deleting all the registry values in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office. Obviously this is an extreme approach that wiped my preferences, but it appears to have done the trick.
This is a Microsoft Word problem, plain and simple.
It has been a long time since I've personally run into a bald-faced but in Office. This is a bald-faced and extremely serious bug. I've puchased Office 2010 for my entire business, but will not install it until it is fixed. WHAT a nightmare.

I am experiencing this problem as well. There is no problem if I use Word 2000 on my computer. The problem only occurrs with Word 2010.
I am using Word 2010 in 2000-2003 compatibilkity mode with XP SP3 on a P4 computer. When I open documents previously created with Word 2000 including a Park Avenue Adobe Post Script font sometimes it appears correctly and sometimes it doesn't. While I am working on the document the Park Avenue font will tend to switch to Times new Roman. If I highlight and select Park Avenue again it does not make any difference. It will not display or print correctly. So I am forced to change the font to Times New Roman or something else that will work. No problem with TT fonts, only with Adobe PS Fonts. I have checked and the font is installed correctly.
I tried an experiment and opened my document and changed from Times New Roman to Park Avenue. The Park Avenue fonts displayed correctely. Then I used control S to save. I could still see Park Avenue fonts. However when I scrolled down and then scrolled up again so the fonts went off the page and back on again they changed to Times New Roman again. It seems to happen sometimes after a save and they are scrolled out of view and then back into view. A Memory cache problem maybe as described above? Deleting and reinstalling the font does not help. These fonts were originally installed using an Adobe card printing programme. There are shortcuts to the fonts in the C/Windows /Fonts folder which point to C:\PSFONTS\PFM. I since reinstalled with the actual font rather than a shortcut but no change. I also have Photoshop Elements 6 and 8 on my computer and have 3 pdf printers as well as an Epson 1290 and HP 7660 and Canon iP3000 and Canon MP240 on my system. As far as I know none are post script printers. The problem is clearly with Word 2010 as Word 2000 which is still on my system has no problem with the fonts.
I tried the suggestion mentioned previously and added another editing language, Hindi and Arabic. Now I get a different problem. The Park Avenue Font does not switch to Times New Roman but the spacing of the Park Avenue font is too great with massive gaps between the letters. This onlý happens when it is scrolled off and back on the page after a save.
The only work around for me at the moment is not to use Adobe Post Script fonts with Word 2010 and stick to True Type Fonts.
Your thoughts and suggestions would be apreciated.
