I upgraded from Office 2007 to 2010 two weeks ago. Whenever I open up documents in Print Layout View that were created under earlier versions of Word (2000, 2003, 2007), Word replaces several of the fonts with something that looks like Arial bold.Sometimes it changes just the title fonts, sometime the entire body font--it's not always the same phenomenon in each document.
The Font window on the Home tab still shows the name of the original font being used in the document, but the screen does not show that font--it just shows whatever it replaces the font with. Repeat: even though the screen in showing a different font, the Font window on the Tab Screen shows the name of the font the document should be showing.
When I change to Draft View, the fonts all display properly, but I need the correct fonts in the Print Layout to show because the bogus font that Word substitutes throws off the accuracy of what I'm looking at.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I solved this problem by saving the troublesome file in what 2010 calls "compatability mode>"
Eutactic, I finally tried this solution. I really was not comfortable deleting everything under \Office, but after backing up the registry, I gave it a try. So far it seems to have worked. I will be finishing an important project during the week, so I will have daily opportunities to see how this holds up.

I believe I have solved this problem by simply backing up and deleting all the registry values in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office. Obviously this is an extreme approach that wiped my preferences, but it appears to have done the trick.
I have had this exact same problem, and not only with Adobe fonts but also with H&FJ fonts as someone else had posted. So whoever from microsoft said that Adobe is the culprit for this problem is massively ignorant.
Furthermore, I am chiming in that I have CS5 installed. I'm seeing a pattern here, and I think CS5 could be the problem. Well, technically, there is a bug within ms Word, but will microsoft ever admit that? Will they ever admit that they cause my computer to freeze while I transfer files to my external hard drive? Will they EVER admit that it is their fault that my fonts folder in control panel is only showing the system fonts and not those that I have installed? Will they admit they have a massive problem with the Xbox displaying the 'Open tray' error?
Microsoft's software and hardware is overall high-quality, but in general they exhibit massive bugs which are simply intolerable for a large corporation who possesses such a massive share in the world of technology. I must say that I am very disappointed in Microsoft, and that with each passing software release they are becoming less and less appealing.
I have the same problem when I try to use my Garamond fonts..a whole set of them. The fonts I want to use are listed but I finish up with something that is utterly different. Awful problem. looks like I have to revert to word 2007, else all my docs are going to fall apart as I tend to have everything just fitting on a page, and anything changes and as likely as not the page overflows
