I am trying to embed a video from youtube directly into my powerpoint presentation. Under the insert tab and video pull down list, I have the option of "video from file" and "video from clipart", but the option of "video from website" is there in the pull down menu but I can't "click" it. The option is "greyed out" please help ty.

Windows Media Player 10 or higher
32-bit Office 2010

You are not using 32-bit Office. NO, YOU CANNOT EMBED YOUTUBE VIDEOS IN THE 64-BIT VERSION OF MICROSOFT OFFICE. Actually, it's more accurate to say NO, YOU CANNOT USE THE INSERT VIDEO FROM ONLINE WEBSITE IN THE 64-BIT VERSION OF MICROSOFT OFFICE.
Note that using Insert | Video | Video from Website (like YouTube) doesn't actually embed the video. You use the embed code, but it LINKS to the YouTube site. You need to have a live internet connection for this thing to work. (In the 32-bit version of Office, that is. I repeat, it will NOT work in the 64-bit version of Office.)
As was mentioned elsewhere, you can convert the YouTube video to some video format that is embeddable, like WMV or AVI or MPEG or whatever and embed that by using Insert | Video | From File. And *that* video can actually be embedded into PPT 2010, not just linked.

So can someone PLEASE clarify this? I have a 64 bit Windows 7 operating system and so I've installed the 64 bit Office 2010 because the 32 bit version did not work when I downloaded it. I am having this same issue with the "Embed video from Website" being greyed out. IS THERE NO WAY TO EMBED YOUTUBE VIDEOS IN THIS VERSION OF MICROSOFT OFFICE?!?!?! I am very frustrated because I will not have access to my laptop for a big presentation I have tomorrow-- so I cannot download the video and embed it that way. Why would Microsoft create a 64bit version that is LESS functional than the lower quality version?!

You cannot use the embed code to link to an online video using the 64-bit version of PPT.
You might check into Live Web. http://skp.mvps.org/liveweb.htm
You can also download the video, convert it to WMV, and embed or link that into PPT 2010.
In previous versions of PPT, people would suggest using an ActiveX control to embed videos, but I don't think you can do that in the 64-bit version. Hopefully someone will pop in and clarify that, because I'm not positive.
