Howdy. After spending hours and hours online looking for a fix - trying the fixes offered time and time again, repairing with the disk, I am still not having any success fixing this error message.
Issue: Just installed Micro Office 2010 on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. As a faculty member I had purchased the single license version of Professional from my school (shouldn't be an issue). All other Micro Office programs seems to be functioning properly. However, Excel will only open files from within the program - I cannot click the files and open them. Even if I save a new file that I create - I still cannot open it from outside.
Yes, I have checked that the Ignore Programs option is unchecked.
Yes, I am not running any add-ins.
Please help. Am at wits' end :(

Try the following steps:
Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes
To access Excel (.exe), open the following location:
Windows 7 32bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
Windows 7 64bit: C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
I have just got rid of the problem.
i've got MS-Excel 64 bit.
I had turned ON the advanced option:
(File/Options -> Advanced -> General ->)
Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
I did that to get rid of the
cannot use object linking and embedding
error when starting Excel.
I consequently found that the problem with this error was that something had changed the DCOM User to my account instead of the launching User
(Component services\Computers\Mycomputer\DComConfig\Microsoft Excel Application-> Properties (right click) -> Identity (tab) change this user to the launching user)
When I did that cannot use object linking and embedding was gone, but
There was a Problem sending the command to the program
was shown up each time I tried to double click an Excel file.
Finally I turned
Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
back ON
and now everything seems to be fine!

the better way to sort out from this issue is:
First:
unstall all the microsoft application from control panel.
for that type appwiz.cpl in run box.
unstall all the microsoft office tools.
Second:
type regedit in run, after the regedit box open , click on computer in top. and go to Menu. Edit and click find.. if you have problem in excel then type excel in box ,or winword .
delete all the find excel or winword one by one. by continue finding ( shortcut to find next is to press F3 button repetedly.
Third
Reassure again second one.
Forth
Now reinstall your office from your data bank or CD.
Done.
This solution worked like a champ. Thank you very much. I had shortcut on the desktop that would not open the Excel file with xlsm filetype. One workaround was to create a new profile. But changing the
"Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" setting did the trick in the original profile.
