Excel 2010 "There was a Problem sending the command to the program" Error

Howdy. After spending hours and hours online looking for a fix - trying the fixes offered time and time again, repairing with the disk, I am still not having any success fixing this error message.

Issue: Just installed Micro Office 2010 on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. As a faculty member I had purchased the single license version of Professional from my school (shouldn't be an issue). All other Micro Office programs seems to be functioning properly. However, Excel will only open files from within the program - I cannot click the files and open them. Even if I save a new file that I create - I still cannot open it from outside.

Yes, I have checked that the Ignore Programs option is unchecked.

Yes, I am not running any add-ins.

Please help. Am at wits' end :(

Try the following steps:

Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes

To access Excel (.exe), open the following location:

Windows 7 32bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14

Windows 7 64bit: C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

I have just got rid of the problem.

i've got MS-Excel 64 bit.

I had turned ON the advanced option:

(File/Options -> Advanced -> General ->)

Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)

I did that to get rid of the

cannot use object linking and embedding

error when starting Excel.

I consequently found that the problem with this error was that something had changed the DCOM User to my account instead of the launching User

(Component services\Computers\Mycomputer\DComConfig\Microsoft Excel Application-> Properties (right click) -> Identity (tab) change this user to the launching user)

When I did that cannot use object linking and embedding was gone, but

There was a Problem sending the command to the program

was shown up each time I tried to double click an Excel file.

Finally I turned

Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)

back ON

and now everything seems to be fine!

Hi

I've been going mad trying to sort out why I can only open Excel files from within Excel 2010 on a new Samsung Win 8 laptop and not by double clicking in Explorer or from e-mail attachments.

Hours of Googling looking for the answer and none worked, even started to look at the Registry entries,,,panic!

Turning off the "Run this program in compatibility mode fixed it straight away. Thanks so much

for me i tried all of the solutions on this page too and it didnt work!!

But finally it works now.

the reason was that i have add in that makes this problem!

Try to remove all add ins also now Excel opens very fast.

My thanks to you, I was plagued by this exact same problem all week. For me, unchecking the "Ignore ... (DDE)" box solved the problem.
