Project 2010 Timescale Error.

I have a sample project which has very short tasks(1-2 minutes).  If I set the timescale options to display minutes with a count of 1, the Gantt chart frequently displays incorrectly.  The Gantt chart show tasks starting 1 minute before the start of working time (Standard Calendar), the timescale count is variable (2 or occasionally 3 minutes) and the Gantt bars do not display correctly, either with the wrong duration or just a short vertical line.  Is this a know bug?

Hi Mike,

Sorry but I fail to see what a re-post could do after 40 replies and the finding that yes, I can reproduce the error and that it has been carried forward to the product team :-(

Greetings,

    Jan,

Yes, I could see the issue in the gif screenshot Greg sent to me but I simply could not reproduce it under Windows XP or Windows 7 even with the file Greg sent. My Windows screen is normally about 17" or 18". I tried changing the screen size, I tried changing the font size but to no avail. The timescale still looks fine.

I've heard of "profile corruption" but I can't say I know exactly what it is. In my reply back to Greg I suggested he try un-installing and re-installing Project since he never mentioned trying that. I wonder if simply trashing his working Global and letting Project regenerate a default Global would clear the problem.

As yet we don't know what Windows configuration Greg and his clients are using. If they are using Windows XP, is it possible the problem can be resolved by installing SP3 for Windows XP? I mention that because neither I nor Ismet  could reproduce the problem under XP and we both have SP3 installed.

No doubt about it, lots of "weirdness" with this issue. Maybe its a regional thing. The problem shows in Europe but not in the USA or Turkey.

    John

    Hi John and all,

Weird it is. Do you know that the gif file you sent me also shows the error? It could be the size of the screen (mine is rather small) or the error linked to "profile corruption" for instance  - on this computer I cannot set manual scheduling from the gantt chart, only from the options. Project 2010 and XP are an explosive mixture indeed.

The only setting I have here is for the tilmescale in minutes, I don't know what else can be the cause. But not being a Windows specialist I hesitate to re-create a profile, especially since in an other post I read that this "profiel correuptio" is caused by VBA macros:-((

    Jan,

This must be some fringe failure mode. I opened Greg's file under Windows XP (SP3) with Office 2007 and Project 2010 (no updates) and I still cannot reproduce the problem. Is there some special sequence or setting you used to "reproduce it at will"?

    John

    Hello Jan,

I typed in the task list in Project 2010 (XP SP3) but I was not able to reproduce it.

    Regards,
