How do I get the classic Excel menu back in Excel 2010?
I'm talking about the Excel menu before this totally useless menu was introduced in Excel 2007.

The now-not-so-new docx format from 2007 onwards produces significantly smaller files that the old .doc. It was high time MS did something to those bloated file formats.

True, WP never had this problem because their file structure was fundamentally different from the start.
Whether a DOCX given file is smaller than it's DOC equivalent, and exactly by what ratio, depends entirely on the content.
There arises a further question: These versions are on two separate laptops - do I have to give up the nice idea of importing or might there still be a way to do this (a way simple enough for a granny to implement ;)

Yes, you are in luck. 2003 does not have to be installed on the machine to import the toolbar. But, you do have to have access to 2003 on some machine if you want to make changes to those custom toolbars.
Here is an article from another contributor to this site describing how to import 2003 toolbars into 2007/10. I don't know if the instructions are "simple enough" for you ("granny" or not is really irrelevant <grin> ) , but if they are not, please feel free to ask questions. We may/should be able to help you.

Rohn007, yes, WP has a different file structure - that was my point.
I have checked a lot of DOC/DOCXs. DOCX was significantly smaller every time, though I did not note the variations in percentages. The differences between XLS and XLSX seemed lower. With PPT/PPTX I am not sure there was an obvious pattern, but then I tested very little. I expect that was the most 'content-driven'.
As regards the word processor, ideally MS would buy WordPerfect, add any decent Word features to it (if any...), rename it Word and sell that as its product. It would be so much better....
