'there was a problem sending the command to the program' error message in windows 7 using word 2007

in windows explorer, i double click on a word 2007 doc  and i get an error message 'there was a problem sending the command to the program'. if i click on it a second time - it will open. irritating ..... any suggestions?

    Didn't bother with turning off the addons all together:

    Opened Word

    Clicked on the little orb and Opened Word Options

    Click Add-Ins

    Clicked on "Go" at the bottom next to the drop down with "COM Add-ins" in the box

    Deselected all of the COM Addin

    Hit OK

    Closed and opened Word again

    Issue resolved AND is opening faster than it was before. Now a happy IT guy.

    This user had Paper Port PDF Add-In installed along with zeonWord or something similar to that. Removing these 2 resolved the issue. I don't want to waste time going back to see in particular which caused the issue. I've been on it for 2 hrs and it's fixed so now i'm moving on to something else. Yay...

    Seriously? Registry hacking before a suggestion to run

    winword.exe /r

    from the Start -> Run box? The /r switch, "Re-registers Word in the Windows registry. This switch starts Word, runs Office Setup, updates the Windows registry, and then closes."

    Definitely try this before you go digging through the Registry! Accidentally deleting or changing the wrong registry setting can result in a completely unresponsive system.

    This worked for the same problem on Word 2002. Can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge. I was searching high and low trying to find a solution and asked a friend who is an ISP and he pulled up your thread but had to leave so I continued reading it to the end and your answer solved this problem. Now, I am clicking on Word icons like a banshee without the frustration of that error message and having to load docs from within Word. Thanks Again!!
