UPDATE 28Apr2025: I renewed and changed my subscription to Microsoft Personal Classic and that *seemed* to eliminate Co-Pilot. For how long? Who knows? But at least now its no longer showing up on my emails. Thank you to everyone who shared my frustrations and who offered suggestions.
How do I remove Copilot from my Outlook email (and all other applications for that matter)? I have a 5 year old MacBook Pro. I use Outlook (Hotmail account) and all of a sudden CoPilot has appeared when I start writing or replying to emails. I do NOT want it. I do NOT need it. It is VERY distracting and I want to disable and/or remove it. Any advice would be most appreciated. I tried searching online but could not find a suitable answer. Thank you.
I do not know if I have the New or Legacy Outlook.

I agree. Inability to remove Copalot is also leading me to look elsewhere.
Why I am not asked to "consent" to this wretched feature ?
I've already moved over to LibreOffice ... and it's better than Ms Office in a lot of respects, especially its price point.

After years on Hotmail, moving to gmail. I paste lots of documents and cannot do it with the co-pilot embedded. Disgusting. It has pretty much disabled my outgoing mail.
I'm trying to send MD instructions to a family member from a health portal and cannot do it in your system. Done.

Copilot is clearly on while they use our emails to feed its AI. Without our consent. So, even if they decide to remove it now, I'm positive all our emails (years of them for many of us) have been feed to Copilot AI education. Without our consent.
Absolutely decided, in view of their short-sighted policies a whole series of changes. I said it before but now it's even more.
-I need Hotmail for work reasons but use Thunderbird and Gmail to suck up all past emails.
-Stop radically the use of MS OneDrive and moved to Google's Drive (as I prefer to marry the bad that we know than being goose-feed these corp. abuses from MS). Use Proton for most private messages.
-Avoid as much as possible MS Office moved to LibreOffice and other options.
-Use Firefox as default browser, pdf reader etc. and avoid Edge like the plague.
-In the big new computer dual boot to Linux Mint and Windows 10
-Yes! Resist the move to 11 at whatever cost (still can not forgive MS for removing WordPad from Windows 11).
-Gave my Xbox to a friend's kid and cancel anything related to Xbox gaming.
-Buy Steam Deck and use Steam OS in Linux. Also got the PS5.
-Bought a new Chrome-Plus laptop to have other options and learn its environment. Never before I was so motivated to do so.
-Borrowing my wife's IPad to see how I can live with Apple.
-There is huge paradigm shift in how I use the PC (and I built them for hobby since MS Dos).
I'm sure there is more to come.
Worst of all is that imho even if you could remove copilot now it's too late. Nothing short from an apology and legal assurances that our emails have not been used for their AI education could cut it.
Are you sure that Copilot is on? I personally have removed the software which you can find in installed apps. Unfortunately, while I'm pretty confident now that copilot is not on my computer, the button remains in Outlook. I rightly or wrongly interpret this as a sign of despicably bad Microsoft programming as this should have been removed along with the application, yes?
I can't recommend Google's Drive. I mean if they are pillaging and plundering your email for marketing purposes as I am under the impression that they do, I can't see their Cloud solution being any better. As you your Proton, they too have a Cloud Drive solution. At least that is protected by Swiss Privacy Lows and GDPR.
I too am looking at LibreOffice now and considering a move to that, trying to balance the new applications and time required to automate them as much as I have with the Microsoft products... and considering the lack of any positive response from Microsoft to any of our concerns and their insistence of taking away our rights to use our computers and purchased software as we want. Insisting on keeping useless annoying buttons on the screen in front of use and share buttons on applications that we would never share....
Our computers are not a one solution fits all and user customization is critical. Making us see share buttons or copilot buttons every time we access a Microsoft app if anything turns me off using the app even before I research it.
At least that is my 2 bits on this subject.
