Outlook Mail won't let me sign in

I just tried to access Outlook and I've been greeted with this message:

Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later.

The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again.

I've reset my password, been sent five or six e-mail login codes which have gotten me nowhere - and it wouldn't even send me one to my phone - and I am at the end of my patience. Can someone please advise me what I need to do to fix this? I've been locked out on my iPad and my phone, and trying to refresh on my laptop just gets me that message.

    I have the same exact issue. Called Microsoft to no avail. They said I no longer have access to the "new outlook" since my email is AOL. It has to be a Microsoft application, i.e. hotmail. Have to go back to using the "classic" version. However, draft emails do not forward back to the "classic" version. I spent hours on a draft email this past week and now gone! They said not possible to retrieve from the "new outlook" anymore. Absolutely ridiculous to do this with no warning!
