Hi all,
I've suffered a new setback in my ongoing battle with Outlook's web interface.
As of the last week or two only, when I have Outlook open in my browser (Chrome on my Mac) and I press the option key, it seems to initiate some sort of keyboard navigation thing where it shows letters under Home, View, etc. that I can press to navigate those menus via the keyboard.
So my question is: How do I get rid of this behaviour?
I use option + delete and fn + option + delete very often while typing to delete word-by-word, and a couple times an hour now I accidentally tap just the option key which suddenly jumps into this navigation thing and stops my keyboard inputs in the message I'm typing until I hit escape to go back to normal.
This amounts to a not insubstantial hit to my email productivity.

Bumping this in 2025. Option key allows non-english languages to put diacritics on letters. Writing emails in Outlook now is a chore. I think I'll be changing my email provider very soon.
Can we please get some sort of timeline on when this will be addressed? It's really infuriating.
I just need the option to make it work like it used to work. I'm not asking for any new functionality.
Sadly, it seems to be a longstanding for Microsoft to take something that works fine and "improve" it to the point where it's simply painful to use.
One more to the list.
So frustrating... this exact thing is happening all the time - just because that is how I navigate around any text/emails quickly.
This is a must fix issue, especially as I bet only 1% of users actually know about or use the Menu shortcuts they've decided to build on the Option key. Such a ridiculous feature to have built and mapped to directly clash with a known way of navigating text.
Get it fixed.
That stops this specific behaviour but doesn't really address the problem.
Opening every email I want to type in a new window is just as inefficient as getting randomly popped out of text input once in a while when I press Option.
