How to stop Outlook from jumping to older emails every time I click on unread email?

I started encountering this problem recently. I didn't make any changes that should have prompted this newfound issue. When I click on an unread email (I sort my emails by date, the newest at the top), Outlook will frequently automatically scroll down in my Inbox to older emails (usually to yesterday's or last week's emails). It also happens when I click on an older email after reading a new email. It doesn't do this every time, but I would say it does it more times than not. I searched to see if anyone else had encountered this problem and found a couple of posts. I followed Microsoft's instructions (disabling add-ins, repairing the application, restarting, updating, etc.), and nothing has fixed this issue. This is a super annoying glitch, and I'm tired of constantly scrolling back up in my inbox every time I go through my newer emails.

If it helps or matters, I use Microsoft 365 Apps for Business, Version 2411, Build 16.0.18227.20082. I do not like the new Outlook, so I am using the classic version on my desktop (not web-based). My computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad with Windows 11 Pro, 24H2 version.

In my case the issue is present when grammary is off or on, but the email highlight bar is jumping only when I have unread emails in the inbox and when I click on it. When all email are read no jumping.

The I wanted to figure out what is the pattern for this jumping, all the jumps were back to emails from 1/9, when removed these emails, then email started to jump to emails from 1/10.

I noticed when closing a email section like yesterday, last week, last month in in box the issue is gone. So I closed the last section in my inbox and works so far.

I cannot verify what you have said in your post, Tom.

When I put my Outlook into safe mode, it did not jump. But when I reopened it normally, even with all my add-ins "disabled," it jumped again into the middle of my inbox.

I have just used Revo Uninstaller to do a deep uninstall - and then reinstalled it and rebooted my PC. All of my add-ins are disabled - and (so far) it has not jumped yet (but it has only been 10 minutes). I just might be lucky...

I also don't have grammarly at all (just FYI).

We have tested this with a few customers who are having this issue. Here's what we've tested:

    • Re-install doesn't work, even by removing all lingering registry keys and files/folders
    • Happens with or without Grammarly installed
    • Happens in safe mode
    • Reset views + anything else suggested earlier in this thread.
    • Ensured the latest updates were installed, including Windows Updates.

We're at a loss! Hopefully, this gets resolved in the next update, but can't see this listed as a known issue or something that Microsoft are aware of.

I disabled all my add-ins and it still jumps. So, I don't think it has to do with that. I will attempt to uninstall and then reinstall it and hope that fixes the problem.

There could be various applications causing issues with Outlook. For me, it was Grammarly. Since I uninstalled it, I haven't experienced the problem again, and it's been about a week. 🤞
