How do I TURN OFF the "Summary by Copilot" banner that appears on every single email I receive in outlook?

Microsoft are repeating the same errors they have made in the past, since the days of the much-hated paperclip in Microsoft Office ("It looks like you are typing a letter...") - namely dreaming up useless new features and foisting them on their customers without asking if they want them, and without giving them the option to disable these intrusive features. And to cap it all, at the end of these useless Copilot summaries it concedes "AI-generated content may be incorrect"!

Microsoft needs to provide a Disable Copilot Summary option in Outlook.com settings, and quickly please.

AI is intruding even more with emails--now, when I am actually writing the email, I am continually asked if I want Copilot's help in writng the email! I do not need or want Copilot's help, and the icon and questions are extremely distracting. They appear whenever I make a paragraph break! I hope some of the people in charge see the frustration here and hold back on forcing AI upon us! It's fine to offer the option, but we should be able to shut it off!!!

Working off a small laptop screen already, the copilot summary feature occupies space that I would rather want to use for seeing the actual email. Looking through all the replies, seems like the majority agrees and does not use this feature. It's been 6 month since this question was asked...is there any update to this Microsoft??? Any version updates? Anyone considering all this feedback over there????

So I awoke to find the same thing. Very surprising how Microsoft feels that EVERYONE needs them to help them read their emails, or raise their kids, or brush their teeth.

That said, similar to one other post about this topic for users of Chrome, I use Firefox and use uBlock Origin as an ad blocker. I happened to right click on the copilot banner looking for a "shut this feature off" button or something and noticed that on the context menu for uBlock that it said "Block Element". I clicked on that and the litttle copilot icon disappeared, but the box remained. I then clicked on the "X" element and it disappeared. There were a few more elements in that box which I could remove and when there was nothing but the box, I was able to remove that as well.

I never realized that uBlock Origin could do that, and I'm not sure if it will survive a reboot, but I'll find out. Hope this can help someone.

According to its description, I understand that you are looking for the option to turn off the "Summary by Copilot" banner that appears on every single email I receive in outlook? However, there is currently no way to remove only the "Summary by Copilot" banner. You may need to completely disable Copilot and its summaries and hence disable the "Summary by Copilot" banner in your Outlook.

Moreover, outlook within an organization, the "Summary by Copilot" might be controlled by your IT administrator. Please contact them to inquire if they can disable Copilot for your account. They can do this by going to follow these steps, Turn off Copilot for Sales features in Microsoft 365 apps | Microsoft Learn:

1. Sign in to Microsoft 365 admin center with your tenant admin credentials.
2. Select Settings > Org settings.
3. On the Org settings page, under the Services tab, find Sales Copilot.
4. In the Sales Copilot panel, clear the option that says "Allow users to see Sales Copilot content in Microsoft 365 apps".
5. Click Save to apply the changes. This should hide the annoying banner and give you more space for your emails!
