Hi there

I received an email at 05:56 today stating that I had had Pegasus spyware installed on my PC and that explicit videos of me would be shared with my contacts unless I paid a virtual currency ransom.

I did find it in my junk folder, but I still wanted to reach out as this email has caused me a great deal of anxiety. I have viewed online forums that state the email is a common scam, and that there are others similar to it in circulation, but I would still appreciate an expert opinion.

Also it was send with my email, and outlook detect it like it was me

For person that face the same problem

You can check the source code of the email and see if fsp fails, that mean that the guy spoofed the email so you are not hacked guys

It look like this

protection.outlook.com: domain of hotmail.com does not designate 95.214.82.181 as permitted sender

Hi NEVARLeVrai,

Thank you for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

I know you're worried about your email being hacked. Here are some suggestions to help you deal with this situation and keep your device safe:

  1. Do not respond or pay

First and foremost, do not respond to the threatener or make a payment to them. Such emails are usually phishing or blackmail, designed to intimidate you for money.

  1. Confirm the authenticity of the email

Check the sender's address: Double-check the sender's email address to make sure it matches your email address exactly. Sometimes, attackers forge sender information.

Check the header information: If you know how to view the full header information of an email, you can check if the email is really from your domain.

  1. Change your password

Change your Microsoft account password immediately. Make sure you choose a strong password and enable double authentication (2FA) for added security.

Check other accounts: if you use the same password for other websites, it is recommended that you change these as well.

  1. Check device security

Run a security scan: Use a trusted antivirus program to run a full scan of your device. Make sure your antivirus software is up to date.

Check applications: See if there are any unidentified applications or files on your device, especially recently installed ones.

  1. Monitor Account Activity

Check Account Activity: Sign in to your Microsoft account and review recent sign-in activity to make sure there aren't any suspicious sign-ins.

Check other important accounts: Check the activity of your banking, social media, and other important accounts to ensure there is no unauthorized access.

  1. Report an Incident

Contact local law enforcement: If you feel threatened or are concerned about your safety, consider reporting it to your local law enforcement agency.

  1. Understanding Pegasus spyware

How to check for infections: Detecting Pegasus spyware isn't easy, but there are a number of security tools you can try to scan for it.

Keep your device up-to-date: Make sure your operating system and applications are kept up-to-date to prevent known vulnerabilities from being exploited.

I hope these programs can help you.

Best regards

Same thing is happening to me. This is what I got

Hello pervert, I've sent this messаge from your Microsoft аccount.

I wаnt to inform you аbout а very bаd situаtion for you. However, you cаn benefit from it, if you will аct wisеly.

Hаve you heаrd of Pegаsus? This is а spywаre progrаm thаt instаlls on computers аnd smаrtphones аnd аllows hаckers to monitor the аctivity of device owners. It provides аccess to your webcаm, messengers, emаils, cаll records, etc. It works well on Android, iOS, mаcOS аnd Windows. I guess, you аlreаdy figured out where I’m getting аt.

It’s been а few months since I instаlled it on аll your dеviсеs becаuse you were not quite choosy аbout whаt links to click on the intеrnеt. During this period, I’ve leаrned аbout аll аspects of your privаte life, but оnе is of speciаl significаnce to me.

I’ve recorded mаny videos of you jerking off to highly controversiаl роrn videos. Given thаt the “questionаble” genre is аlmost аlwаys the sаme, I cаn conclude thаt you hаve sick реrvеrsiоn.

I doubt you’d wаnt your friends, fаmily аnd co-workers to know аbout it. However, I cаn do it in а few clicks.

Every number in your contаct Iist will suddenly receive these vidеоs – on WhаtsApp, on Telegrаm, on Instаgrаm, on Fаcebook, on emаil – everywhere. It is going to be а tsunаmi thаt will sweep аwаy everything in its pаth, аnd first of аll, your fоrmеr life.

Don’t think of yourself аs аn innocent victim. No one knows where your реrvеrsiоn might leаd in the future, so consider this а kind of deserved рunishmеnt to stop you.

I’m some kind of God who sees everything. However, don’t pаnic. As we know, God is merciful аnd forgiving, аnd so do I. But my mеrсy is not free.

Trаnsfer 1300$ to my Litecoin (LTC) wаllet: ltc1qy2kajtwgrcps6uewn7p0yuj5y8auuem4qf9dje

Once I receive confirmаtion of the trаnsаction, I will реrmаnently delete аll videos compromising you, uninstаll Pegаsus from аll of your devices, аnd disаppeаr from your life. You cаn be sure – my benefit is only money. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be writing to you, but destroy your life without а word in а second.

I’ll be notified when you open my emаil, аnd from thаt moment you hаve exаctly 48 hours to send the money. If cryptocurrencies аre unchаrtered wаters for you, don’t worry, it’s very simple. Just google "crypto exchange" or "buy Litecoin" аnd then it will be no hаrder thаn buying some useless stuff on Amаzon.

I strongly wаrn you аgаinst the following:

    * Do not reply to this emаil. I've sent it from your Microsoft аccount.

    * Do not contаct the police. I hаve аccess to аll your dеviсеs, аnd аs soon аs I find out you rаn to the cops, videos will be published.

    * Don’t try to reset or destroy your dеviсеs. As I mentioned аbove: I’m monitoring аll your аctivity, so you either аgree to my terms or the vidеоs аre рublished.

Also, don’t forget thаt cryptocurrencies аre аnonymous, so it’s impossible to identify me using the provided аddrеss.

Good luck, my perverted friend. I hope this is the lаst time we heаr from eаch other.

And some friendly аdvice: from now on, don’t be so cаreless аbout your online security.

I would block the sender and ignore it because I got one of those on the 14th where it says from what I understand is that 48 hours already went by where diddly squat has changed because I am too busy to check emails that I barely use much.

And there's only a few webcams in the home and they have their privacy shields closed when not in use and they have LED indicators that turn on the moment the camera receives a signal where that gets placed on another drive.

And "questionable content" isn't even questionable where even law enforcement would even hang up the phone to.

Saw similar when one got an fbi threat where I tore down that email and showed them that it came from a hotmail.fr account not the office as their mom got scammed via one of those Nigerian lotto scams.

and also they send in the same email "I’m some kind of God who sees everything. However, don’t pаnic. As we know, God is merciful аnd forgiving,  аnd so do I. But my mеrсy is not free."

I found that very hypocritical especially when it said "all I want is money" which proves a point I made for years when real people would try these things.

And 1750$ lol must be one desperate hobo. He even left out a handful of OS.

Last time a dude tried this on yahoo he blocked me after using a translator to attempt to sound Chinese as I confronted him over trying to scare some female into dating him online not even caring that she was seeing someone else. Said he saw some spyware so i asked him what kernel version I was using and even my PC name he tried to insult me via google translate and blocked me where he didn't know that my friends can Identify google translate. One time we found a dude with an empty bottle of bleach trying to claim that he was drinking it to manipulate where due to his own admission his heart should be looking like swiss cheese.

Just block it and report it.

It is definitely a scam, but I understand it sounds concerning. E-mail accounts are still so primitive that anyone can use anyone's e-mail address as a fake sender, hence why it looks like you've e-mailed yourself, when it isn't the case.

If you're still worried, use 2FA.

I'm also getting this, now on accounts that weren't even breached.
