Outlook.office.com | Can't turn off auto converting underscores to italics formatting

Good day. After thorough research, test from my end and consulting, we find out that: when we type "sand_wich_" in new outlook, the word is highlighted as an error and the new outlook give you some suggestions to correct the word but it doesn't automatically correct the word.So if you don't want the corrected spelling you can disable it , new email "Options --> Editor > Editor setting and disable all the correction option and disable auto correct as well"

However in new outlook , it is not currently feasible to disable "*Bold* and _italic_ with real formatting"  because it work as Outlook on the web.

Since this product is in its Preview phase, customers may experience some gaps in functionality. Currently the only support offered for this product is in-app support that is in direct connection with Product Group. That said, customer need to create an in-app ticket; please refer to Contact support and provide feedback in new Outlook for Windows - Microsoft Support.

Additionally, it is advisable to verify the functionality in the old/legacy Outlook, and if it operates correctly, consider using the old Outlook as an alternative.

We apologize if we are not able to meet your requirements; however, thank you for bringing this to our attention, we will surely raise your concerns to our Product Team and hopefully this can be included in the future updates.

However, try to disable the spelling check in new outlook and check the issue as mentioned above and also make sure is happen only in new outlook by check in word app as well.

This is also causing me major issues. I write many emails that have database table names in it and they all have underscore in the name e.g. dim_plm_step_relationship.

Every time I have to go back multiple times to take off the italics and put the underscores back in. Wasting a huge amount of time and ending up with me risking sending incorrect emails.

For me this is such an issue that I am seriously thinking of going back to the classic Outlook. Please raise this has a significant issue with your product team.

I tried your suggestion of turning off spelling check and it did not make any difference. the words are still auto-changed to remove the underscores and put the word in italics. I am rather disappointed in Microsoft for setting this as default and not giving a way to turn it off, there are many areas of industry that need to be able to use underscore and Asterix without it removing them and changing the text.

I just wanted to emphasize this post and agree that there needs to be a option to disable this type of auto-formatting. I am having the same issue with a need to type in database field names with underscores, which is standard practice. I moved to this new version to resolve a different problem which I have traded that problem for a new one.

I agree with the other people posting on this item. This alone makes new outlook completely unusable for me. Please do raise a ticket to get this resolved as a matter of urgency.

I totally agree with this post. There's a strong need to disable the autoformatting from underscore to italic. I can hardly edit a mail with lots of underscores in the text.
