Hello,

I also had the problem and digged in a bit deeper using sysinternals Process Monitor to see what exactly fails, when the system tries to download the file in the temporary outlook folder. There I figured out that my problem was a somehow missing Attachments folder!

Please press WIN-R and type %userprofile%\appdata\local\microsoft\olk and press Enter.
Then an explorer windows opens. Check if you can see an Attachments folder. If not create one and problem might be solved for you.

This is so true. Whenever there is an official Microsoft entity that replies to one of these forum questions, that person always posts useless boilerplate that never helps and is never the solution. I think Microsoft should layoff all the employees that patrol these forums. Spend that money on more developers and QA people. Their presence here is counterproductive and only provides frustration rather than assistance.

It's so frustrating. We have a user in our org with the same issue and have reported it to Microsoft Support and they told us that this seems like a bug, so they have escalated it to New Outlook engineering team for further investigation. We have been asked to wait for an update. If you haven't done this already, please report it thru Contact Support option under Help menu, if its available to you, otherwise, if you can't do that, let me know and I will update this post with whatever update we receive from Microsoft Support. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to pop in and say a user of mine is having the same issue for around a month now.

    I have tried:

    • Clearing Outlook Cache
    • System Restart
    • System Update
    • SFC scan

I wasn't able to test any more cause the user needed to work. I tried collecting logs using the debug logger option but the files it gave me were not very helpful when I opened them at my computer, maybe I opened them wrong but its super annoying that it doesn't just write error logs to the event viewer.

Would love for Microsoft to be more open about what they are doing to investigate issues like this or where in the process things are. Clearly this is not an isolated issue but Microsoft wont tell us officially that its a bug and that they are investigating or working on a fix for the issue and instead just waste a bunch of peoples time doing troubleshooting steps that have already been tested and failed.

"Happy" to see that I am not the only one facing this problem unfortunately...

This appeared to me like 1 or 2 weeks ago, whereas somehow at the very beginning when the option to open attachments with the desktop apps was rolled out (see here), it worked for some days.

Me and my IT department have tried to follow the different tips given here, but we could not manage to solve this problem. As I don't have the option to directly contact the Outlook assistance, I would like to use this forum to raise this problem also from my side and emphasize this might me an issue with the New Outlook which may cause trouble to a good number of people.

Currently the only way around I found to open attachments was to save them locally or on OneDrive, and open them. But it's not efficient and it's an important loss of time when you receive dozens of emails with attachments per day.

I like the new Outlook and will try to keep using it as much as I can, but if this problem is not solved quickly I will have no other choice than switching back to the classic version, which is more stable and reliable.
