Hi!
For a few weeks, I've been getting "enter password for hotmail" notification on my Mac. When I enter it, it says "Unable to verify account name or password". I've tried with POP, IMAP, Exchange... still have the same problem. I have another account on Mac Mail (not Outlook account) and works perfectly so I presume it's not coming from Mac but rather from Outlook.
Can someone help me please?

I did not remove the existing account as I was scared I would loose all my emails.
A big ask, I know, but are you confident it will work?

In what way won't it work? Did you follow the processes described already? Did you first remove the existing account and then recreate it using the Exchange option?
For me it's working fine with the Exchange option used and has now been doing so for several weeks. Previously, with the older settings, it nagged me for authentication frequently and often refused to connect to the server or let me fix it.

I get my hotmail emails on my Android phone.
My desktop is an iMac and I choose to use Mac Mail as my mail client.
I tried adding an exchange account (to add hotmail), but it won't work.
For ease of work I'd like to continue with what has worked in the past.
Hopefully a solution will be found.
Did you try using the Exchange option?
If that didn't fix it maybe there's a different issue to that which I had - or maybe you didn't set it up correctly?
Try again, carefully. Use a different email application. Use a different machine. Use a different provider for your email. Various options!
I used Exchange at wrk for years without a problem. It's changed the behaviour slightly, and look/feel/folder layout a little but otherwise okay.
People are looking at it as a MS issue on here, fair enough I guess, but it's a free service and also it could be looked at as partly a problem with Apple - MS have said better authentication is needed, so one needs to use a mail application that provides such modern authentication.
