Hovering over a hyperlink in the "new" outlook doesn't display the actual URL. How can this be remedied.

A very dangerous behavior in the new outlook is that hoving the mouse pointer over a hyperlink in an email no longer displays the actual URL of the link.

Seeing the true URL is the #1 way people can avoid getting email scammed. Removing this tool is inviting people to get defrauded. This should not be a default behavior and I cannot see how to resolve this.

Same here, update / install of Edge WebView did not help. With all concerns around security these days this one was an amazing miss from the MS team.

I just found this but Microsoft answered September 16, 2024:

Hovering over a hyperlink in an email may not display embedded URL in a pop-up tooltip in new Outlook

Outlook on the web New Outlook for Windows

    Last Updated: September 16, 2024

    ISSUE

When you hover over a hyperlink in an email message, the embedded URL may not be displayed in a pop-up tooltip, while in some other cases it may work as expected.

    STATUS: INVESTIGATING

The Outlook Team is investigating this issue for a fix. We will update this article when we know more about fix status.

    WORKAROUND

You may switch back to classic Outlook for Windows (by turning off the ‘New Outlook’ switch near top right-hand corner) or use OWA (Outlook on the web) to access such emails, as it always displays embedded URL in a pop-up at the bottom left-hand corner of browser window (or ‘status bar’ at the bottom of a browser).

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This issue may occur for a regular URL, like http://www.microsoft.com or a URL embedded within text, like ‘link’ with embedded URL pointing to: http://www.microsoft.com.

I'll be switching back to legacy Outlook until this is finished, and my company will definitely not roll out this new Outlook until this is fixed. There are far too many attempts to use this technique to spread malware and deceive users.

Yes, I too am very upset that Microsoft nolonger displays the URL of a hyperlink when hovering over it in the reading pane of Outlook (new Outlook). This is a huge step backwards for computer safety against malicious links.!

I can't understand why Microsoft would do this while they claim to be bolstering computer safety !
