How To Stop The New Outlook From Automatically Installing

I need help please to stop the new outlook from automatically installing and replacing my windows and calendar app. I have uninstalled the new Outlook 4 times today. Every time I launch the old mail and Calendar app the new outlook automatically installs without my permission. It stops me from using the old app. This is very annoying. I don't want the new app. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Your advice would be appreciated.

What worked for me was deleting the new Outlook's executable ("olk.exe") from "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.OutlookForWindows".

Once it's gone, it can't forcibly launch anymore when you open Windows Mail.

You first need to take ownership of the "WindowsApps" folder, then after deleting/renaming the .exe, restore the ownership back to "TrustedInstaller" (to prevent any potential issue down the line).

    I clicked deny for all and went into advanced and changed all the 'allow' options. It installs outlook but (so far) hasn't taken over. Mail opens with the annoying 'try new outlook' toggle (how to remove??).

    Before this, New Outlook kept taking over mail without my requesting it. So far - it hasn't done this. fingers crossed for now.

    Microsoft doesn't give a cr@p about what any of us want and complaining here wont be heard by anyone that really matters at MS.

    That's why I can tell you my work around and not fear that MS will shut it down. But if they do, then we'll know they're listening but they just don't give a f&^k.

    Once you get the Mail app up by deleting Outlook (new) then quickly opening Mail, leave it running. Do not close it. Outlook (new) will reinstall but it will not replace Mail if it's left open. Don't turn off your computer either, just put it to sleep.

    Hello Jimmy, I tried this and denied write access for my current user. I previously uninstalled the new outlook and deleted the .json files. However Outlook automatically installed anyway.

    Then I tried denying all except full control and modify. Outlook still installs automatically.

    I suspect this fix no longer works. If there is anything else I can try, please let me know,

    I need the old mail app because it has the protocol that enables me to use a specific microsoft exchange account. The new outlook does not have the correct protocol and cannot access this Microsoft exchange account. The new outlook is of no use to me.

    I've been poking under the hood and found this one;

    (leave new outlook installed - if you uninstall it will just keep coming back, so leave it as-is.)

    Users/(you)/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/NewOutlookMigration/

    open 'callback' with notepad; change the last two toggles from 'true' to 'false'. close and save.

    Then lock down the 'NewOutlookMigration' folder using the same 'deny' write access as before.

    Worth a try, mine hasn't interrupted work flow since yesterday afternoon, obviosuly still get the annoying 'Try the new Outlook' button in Mail, but hit dismiss and it's gone.

    Before this, it was constantly killing Mail and opening Outlook.
