How To Stop The New Outlook From Automatically Installing

This does work!

Just 2 steps.

1. C:\Users[Your computer's username]\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration\settings.json

You just need to delete the settings.json file, and you will be able to open Mail directly.

2. then add this additional step

Users/(you)/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/NewOutlookMigration/

Then lock down the 'Migration' folder as follows:

change the security write permission of the folder Migration to deny after deleting the settings.json file.

Right-click on the Migration folder, go to Properties, and under the Security tab.

Click Edit, select the current Windows name, check the Write permission as Deny, and apply.

However.. while this is a working solution, I have completely lost all respect and faith in microsoft and have decided instead to switch my email server to Mailbird.

Thank you James. This answer worked for me. I know that this is a work-around but at least now I can use the old Mail app without the new outlook taking over. (At least until the next Windows update-Heh!)

The trick seems to leave the new outlook installed and just delete "olk.exe". The hardest part for me was taking ownership and then after deleting "olk.exe" giving back ownership to trusted installer. I had to do an online search to figure out how to do this.

According to your guidelines:

1- Log in to your admin account

2- Make hidden files visible

3- Take ownership of C:\Program Files\WindowsApps (do an online search for instructions)

4- Navigate to "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.OutlookForWindows" and delete "olk.exe"

5- Restore TrustedInstaller as the owner of the WindowsApps folder (do an online search for instructions)

All the possible solutions. Posted here are just

temporary fixes. I do have the new : Outlook-Mail app

Like a month ago, still have my - Windows "**Mail and Calendar**" 

email program. I was very careful, not to click the

<< SWITCH - Toggle >> but the new - Outlook took over

       my older "**Mail and Calendar**' app. Now instead of the blue

envelope appears the new "Outlook icon" Tried a lot of methods

     to get back to "Mail and Calendar" Wins Store let me

to reinstall it again. it opens and can see the - Toggle to try on

              the "**New outlook**" and the [**Dismiss**] button to reject it

But no matter. if I hit the (Dismiss) button, when

the app is closed. The next time I open it

The new outlook takes over. it acts as virus .. substitute the blue envelope

        of the "Mail & Calendar" app - Shows the new outlook icon

So I decided to post my comment here. I think the only way

to get back to my .. Windows Mail and Calendar - App

is that. Microsoft reconsider to eliminate

the "Mail & Calendar" and the

classic outlook and let the

users decide. if switch

or Not. To new

outlook

In my system Outlook New is an unauthorised piece of software as I have uninstalled it around 25 times last year.

I regard it as a virus and Microsoft is the produce of it.

I think at this time and age we should seek suing Microsoft.
