How To Stop The New Outlook From Automatically Installing

I need help please to stop the new outlook from automatically installing and replacing my windows and calendar app. I have uninstalled the new Outlook 4 times today. Every time I launch the old mail and Calendar app the new outlook automatically installs without my permission. It stops me from using the old app. This is very annoying. I don't want the new app. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Your advice would be appreciated.

What worked for me was deleting the new Outlook's executable ("olk.exe") from "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.OutlookForWindows".

Once it's gone, it can't forcibly launch anymore when you open Windows Mail.

You first need to take ownership of the "WindowsApps" folder, then after deleting/renaming the .exe, restore the ownership back to "TrustedInstaller" (to prevent any potential issue down the line).

Hi Chris, interesting information. I am not bad when it comes to tech but some of what you've described is a little confusing to me..but I will try and give it a go. I have been in touch with Microsoft today, to again, try and get rid of the new outlook. I have uninstalled it 4 times today (nothing new there lol) but after a restart of the computer, new outlook is back again. The Microsoft agent did delete it and uninstall it but again as normal it came back. I don't think anyone is going to be able to EVER remove the New Outlook 😕

Charles, I share your frustration. If only there was a simple way to choose! But alas, it is not to be.

Some have found this solution helpful. It involves downloading a batch script, right clicking it and running as administrator. If successful, it will uninstall the "New Outlook" and install a dummy version that prevents the "New Outlook" from installing again. Then hopefully, the old Mail app will work properly. It's worth a try.

There is nothing in my migration file.

As I said before make an update to this forced dictatorial update to allow a click on a button that says do not install do not ask again. Is that really so difficult for you arrogant people at Msoft. Good lord is a simple fix and yet you just don't give a damn about your customers.

I use Thunderbird & in my situation it looks like there is just a different icon in the taskbar, Outlook vs Mail. IOW no additional icons were added.

As previously mentioned, I received a Windows notification that Thunderbird needed updates or words to that effect. That made me wonder if Windows was going to disable Thunderbird but that didn't happen. So I'm just going to ignore the change & keep using Thunderbird.
