Hotmail not working in blackberry hub and services on Android phone.

Keep getting asked for hotmail password, and when I enter, it goes back to asking for password.

This problem started in February and none of the suggested fixes worked.

A number of ppl tried deleting hotmail and re adding and they couldn't get the account back.

Fortunately, a community member sent me instructions on how to manually set up and it worked.

Today, I got the same password message.

To be clear, I DO NOT want instructions on how to add hotmail to outlook. I don't like the new outlook on my phone. BlackBerry Hub is much more efficient as every account and app notifications come through in one place.

It's not a problem with the Hub because everything else was working fine the last time this happened and is working fine now. My Gmail account and my Bell account, plus WhatsApp, texts, Instagram, and Facebookare all working fine and I've never got any messages from them saying I need to enter a password.

So, whatever coding you did at the beginning of the year, and recently, needs to be fixed.

I'm starting to think this is being done to force ppl to use the new outlook..

Microsoft recently changed their authentication process and the BlackBerry Hub app hadn't been updated to work with the new process. I'm a beta tester for the BlackBerry Hub app on Android and a release just came out today (8.24.2024) that fixes the problems with Microsoft accounts (Hotmail, Live, and Outlook).

I'm not sure when they'll release it publicly, but keep an eye out for an update in the Google Play store. Once the update is release, you'll need to

  1. Open the BlackBerry Inbox app
  2. Click the Gear Icon
  3. Scroll down and select Manage Accounts
  4. Select your Microsoft account (Hotmail, Live, and/or Outlook)
  5. Click the trash can in the upper right corner
  6. Go back to the Manage Account page
  7. Click the + icon
  8. Add an email account
  9. Enter your email address, Next
  10. You'll be prompted for your password, but instead, I clicked on the new "SIGN IN WITH MICROSOFT" option
  11. On the next page that loaded, I had an option to "Send notification" that triggered my 2FA process. Once I approved the request, the account was added (at the bottom of my account list) and my messages began to arrive again.

I'm with you on the BlackBerry Hub app... there isn't anything else out there even close on Android in my opinion and I've been looking since January when I first started having problems.

It worked well.

"We have pushed an update to Google Play that now allows you to add your Microsoft email account with modern authentication. 

If you currently have your Microsoft account configured in Hub, please remove it and then re add the account. After entering the email address in the Add Account flow, you will be asked for a password, below which is a button labeled "Sign in with Microsoft". Rather than entering the password,  click this button and use the Microsoft prompts to login, accept any permission dialogs, and you should be able to complete the workflow and now access your email.

    You have to delete from hub then go to manage accounts in phone settings. Add acct there and you'll get the Microsoft Exchange prompt then go back to hub and add.

    Thanks. Once I figured out I had to pick Microsoft exchange acct, finish set up and then add tp bb hub, it worked. Yay 🎉🎉

    What is the update in google play called?,,,,,,,,how do I get it?

    I've looked.

    I have tried Jerren's fix,,

    1. deleted my Hotmail account from the Hub
    2. Tried to then re-enter it (looking for the option to "SIGN IN WITH MICROSOFT" option. It is NOT there.
    3. Now I can't even add the account again, because I'm stuck in the loop where it won't authenticate.

    Thoughts?
