Hotmail not working in blackberry hub and services on Android phone.

Keep getting asked for hotmail password, and when I enter, it goes back to asking for password.

This problem started in February and none of the suggested fixes worked.

A number of ppl tried deleting hotmail and re adding and they couldn't get the account back.

Fortunately, a community member sent me instructions on how to manually set up and it worked.

Today, I got the same password message.

To be clear, I DO NOT want instructions on how to add hotmail to outlook. I don't like the new outlook on my phone. BlackBerry Hub is much more efficient as every account and app notifications come through in one place.

It's not a problem with the Hub because everything else was working fine the last time this happened and is working fine now. My Gmail account and my Bell account, plus WhatsApp, texts, Instagram, and Facebookare all working fine and I've never got any messages from them saying I need to enter a password.

So, whatever coding you did at the beginning of the year, and recently, needs to be fixed.

I'm starting to think this is being done to force ppl to use the new outlook..

Microsoft recently changed their authentication process and the BlackBerry Hub app hadn't been updated to work with the new process. I'm a beta tester for the BlackBerry Hub app on Android and a release just came out today (8.24.2024) that fixes the problems with Microsoft accounts (Hotmail, Live, and Outlook).

I'm not sure when they'll release it publicly, but keep an eye out for an update in the Google Play store. Once the update is release, you'll need to

  1. Open the BlackBerry Inbox app
  2. Click the Gear Icon
  3. Scroll down and select Manage Accounts
  4. Select your Microsoft account (Hotmail, Live, and/or Outlook)
  5. Click the trash can in the upper right corner
  6. Go back to the Manage Account page
  7. Click the + icon
  8. Add an email account
  9. Enter your email address, Next
  10. You'll be prompted for your password, but instead, I clicked on the new "SIGN IN WITH MICROSOFT" option
  11. On the next page that loaded, I had an option to "Send notification" that triggered my 2FA process. Once I approved the request, the account was added (at the bottom of my account list) and my messages began to arrive again.

I'm with you on the BlackBerry Hub app... there isn't anything else out there even close on Android in my opinion and I've been looking since January when I first started having problems.

Recevied this from Blackberry support: (******@blackberry.com)
It worked well.

"We have pushed an update to Google Play that now allows you to add your Microsoft email account with modern authentication.

If you currently have your Microsoft account configured in Hub, please remove it and then re add the account. After entering the email address in the Add Account flow, you will be asked for a password, below which is a button labeled "Sign in with Microsoft". Rather than entering the password,  click this button and use the Microsoft prompts to login, accept any permission dialogs, and you should be able to complete the workflow and now access your email.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I would be happy to hear any feedback you have.

    I'm utilizing the Blackberrry Key2LE running some type of Android software number 8 from 2018. I added Outlook Lite from the Play Store but am unable to add my hotmail accounts to the Blackberry Hub or the Blackberry calendar. I was able to add the Outlook Lite app to the Blackberry email hub but really don't care for this scenario. I'm an elderly senior so really don't understand the different protocols.

    The manual setup asks what type of account (hotmail) is this?

    I click on Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

    [I think the problem may be domain/username where my account is listed as my hotmail account, ie abcdefg@ hotmail.com]

    Click the X on password identification

    +Add authentication

    Sign in with Microsoft where I enter my password

    I end up with the message:

    Message: AADSTS50177: User account '#########@hotmail.com' from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant 'BlackBerry' and cannot access the application '729b2548-d6ae-4ec1-a6a2-5b005b3117bf'(BlackBerry Hub+ Services) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account.

    I have no idea what to do.

    Lilian;

    Thank you for your reply.

    Yes, on or about Nov 1st, I removed and added the hotmail account several times over several days trying to fix this issue. Me no read good but, finally figured out how to correctly, step by step, remove the hotmail account first from Blackberry Hub Services, then, upon adding the hotmail account back in again correctly using, via the Advanced Settings - "Server settings", the "X" for authentication.

    This worked very nicely however, and don't you hate to hear that word however, the mail flow, back and forth from the mothership(Microsoft) was again flowing and this time without all the errors. I was very happy NO MORE daily ERRORS. However, the calendar was not syncing between my desktop, Outlook, and Blackberry Hub+ Calendar. Like I said above, over days and days of many attempts nothing worked.

    To your point - I do have the Outlook app on my Android phone for the past several years, fully up to date. I do believe in back-up. Anyways', after giving up on the calendar for 2 weeks I thought, what the heck try again. I removed the Microsoft account off Blackberry Hub Services and re-added as normal. Low and behold, it is now fully syncing mail and calendar. Not 100% sure why but, I do note the last Blackberry Hub Services+ update was on Nov 6th. I fixed the e-mail errors on Nov 1st and fixed my calendar after Nov 6th. Maybe the Nov 6th update was the magic we all needed. Ah, all is well again.

    Thanks for your note, this allows me top document everything fully works in case someone else runs into challenges.

    Craig, just go with me here....

    Are you paying a monthly fee? if so........next step is;

    On your Android device,

    • go to 'Play Store"
    • do a search for 'Blackberry Hub'
    • now within the list of found apps, look for and click on "Blackberry Hub+ Services"
    • it will then open and show that you selected "Blackberry Hub+ Services (Beta)
    • scan lower in that image and it will show you under "What's new" when the last update was installed. In my case and probably yours, it should state "Last updated Nov 6, 2024".
    • Now click on the "arrow (-->) across from 'Whats New' to see the details such as;

    Version 2.2445.2, and updated on "Nov 6, 2024

    Thanks
