Email from Microsoft titled "Action Needed – You may lose access to some of your third-party mail and calendar apps" Is this a scam?

The sender is "******@communication.microsoft.com"

Its telling us that "Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods."

I access hotmail email accounts from a MacbookAir laptop using the Apple email app. Also access from an iPhone 11.

It seems legit. Can anyone confirm if it is?

    What that means is that Outlook.com will require Oauth2 ("Modern" Authentication) just like Gmail and Yahoo already do. If your current email client will natively work with either of those, it will work with Outlook.com after the switch-over, though you may need to re-create the account. If your email client does not do Modern Auth, both Gmail and Yahoo will supply (allow you to generate) and require you to use an Application Specific Password instead of your normal password.     This does not answer the question about it being a scam. I received this message, despite using the Outlook App from my Microsoft 365 subscription, on an outlook mail account. That is not a third-party setup.

    It is not a scam, it's a blanket email sent to everyone with an Outlook.com email account. I got one also. In my case, it will likely mean that my old Lumia 928 Windows Phone that I've kept alive with an App Specific Password will quit since App Passwords will not be supported after the change.

    I'm confused.

    I access my hotmail accounts both directly online through the outlook website (when using my laptop) AND through the mail app on my iphone.

    Will I no longer be able to access my accounts online through the website? Or does this just affect the accounts on my apple mail app?

    In both scenarios, can somebody walk me through - step by step - what I'm supposed to do to fix this?
