Email from Microsoft titled "Action Needed – You may lose access to some of your third-party mail and calendar apps" Is this a scam?

The sender is "******@communication.microsoft.com"

Its telling us that "Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods."

I access hotmail email accounts from a MacbookAir laptop using the Apple email app. Also access from an iPhone 11.

It seems legit. Can anyone confirm if it is?

    So are you saying I won't be losing access to my hotmail/outlook account? I'm not sure if I have the new outlook or not. I do not have File tab on the ribbon so supposedly that means it is new outlook but my icon doesn't look like what you posted.

    Terri, if you use Edge to connect to Outlook.com/Hotmail/Live mail/MSN mail, there is nothing to do and no changes. If you use Outlook New

    The same applies, nothing for you to do, no changes. To do a screenshot, press Shift+Windows Key+s to start the screen clipper. When clipped, right click > Paste into a post.

    I really appreciate your help but I do not know how to screenshot the icon I use. My web browser is Edge. Supposedly I have Outlook New.

    Nelli, From Microsoft's Support document Modern Authentication Methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps - Microsoft Support:

    If you use Apple Mail:

    Apple Mail supports Modern Authentication by default when you setup the account as Outlook.com. If you use Apple Mail and you are seeing password prompts or connection errors, this is most likely happening because your account got configured as basic authentication. To mitigate the issue, remove the account and add it back as Outlook.com:

    1. Go to Settings> Mail> Accounts.
    2. Tap the email account you want to remove from your iPhone, then tap Delete Account. For more information, please go to Add and remove email accounts on iPhone.

    Add your account back to Apple Mail:

    1. Go to Settings > Mail.
    2. Tap Accounts, then tap Add Account.
    3. In the Add Account dialog, choose Outlook.com.

    If removing and re-adding the account does not address the issue, do the following: 

    1. Remove the account again.
    2. Go to Settings> Safari, then tap Clear History and Website Data.
    3. Reboot your iPhone.
    4. Add the account back and proceed through the Outlook.com account sign in flow.

    Terri, How do you connect? Do you use a web browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) or do you use an email app (Outlook Classic, Outlook New, Thunderbird, EM Client)? If you're not sure, please post a screenshot of the icon you click to get to email. Thanks!
