Remove NEW Outlook from system and revert to MAIL

Mail was recently updated to Version 16005.14326.22062.0.

Mail will not start up without contortions. New Outlook has taken over. It is wasting too of my much time. My emails are too important to be monkeyed around with by Microsoft. I would like to decide when I want to install New Outlook. I don't want it forced on me.

New Outlook starts everytime Mail is closed. This causes New Outlook to go into a loop that takes several process to get Mail to start running again.

  1. C:\Users[your computer username]\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\ according to the path. Migration\ settings.json, delete the file settings.json.
  2. Once the json file is deleted. New Outlook starts when Mail is opened. Click the switch to classic. New Outlook closes. Launch Mail and Mail starts running.

It has also lost mail in one of my folders. However GMail has retained the files.

I don't want to run New Outlook at this time. The last time I did this it caused havoc on my email and calender. I also don't like the fact that New Outlook deletes files older than 180 days, this does not work for me.

I tried unistalling New Outlook, but it restores as soon as Mail is Launched.

I just want to run MAIL.

I don't want NEW Outlook.

If nothing can be done, I will start running Thunderbird and eventually stop using all Microsoft products.

I use my windows computer to mainly do emails and surf the web. None of which requires MS Windows. I need my email to be stable and reliable. I don't need cloud storage or Microsoft 365. I am using it for home use. Microsoft should make a Windows version for home use, Don't force me into enterprise versions.

STOP forcing NEW Outlook on me! It is neither stable or reliable!

    This link also describes the issue with Xfinity account I have after this forced update. This problem literally kept me from switchin' over originally! So it was like too bad!! Then they up and up force it like a virus...

    I absolutely agree... This is total BS and I have a lot to say about it. They need to stop this... I noticed this too today and it wasted my time trying to get my email to show because Outlook had apparently updated and took out Windows Mail.... I cannot use Outlook yet and find it is GROSS! I have an issue getting one of my accounts to log in. It complains of needing a potential app password... SO I found out I had to un-install the 11-11-2024 update it just did on its own. Oh! and get this.... Uh they try and force using OneDrive to backup your PC? I use Back Blaze.... Stop messing with our pcs! One drive screwed up my performance of my desktop to name a few things... and moved icons around! I am beginning to think I need to unplug my PC from the internet at this point....

    How are you configured? My Win11 computer was working with Mail, but it started using Outlook, I don't use this device a lot for mail, but I sometimes sent links or images, and it started using Outlook recently. However, I discovered that things weren't being sent! (shares). Recently when I tried to open Mail. OUtlook tried to open, but it would not open because I do not have a paid 365 subscription.

    I tried to eliminate Outlook by deleting it and selecting mail and calendar options. I reestablished my account. I thought I was doing it in classic Mail.

    However today I made a screenshot and selected "share " and sent it by email, I thought. But. as it went, there was a momentary notice that it was being sent my Outlook. So it actually went into nevernever land, with no warning to me that my message was dead. That had happened before. Now if I start a message in Mail it will work but I must be phsyically in mail. If I try to share an item from outside of Mail, it screws me by pretending it is sending - but since I don't have Outlook, it just secretly junks my mail with no warning..

    Do you know how to choose Mail for sharing (from the app you are sharing from)? I deleted Outlook, AND they say I have no right to use OUtlook, but my computer still pretends to "send" stuff I want to share by Outlook.

    Half an hour after I sent two messages in MAIL, I tried to open Mail again and only Outlook would open. I can't use Outlook not having a subscription, so I uninstalled it again (perhaps the other one I uninstalled was classic OUtlook. This was New). My computer certainly is doing its **** to keep me from using Mail. The only way I can reliably get mail services is through my browser.

    Now: I just found that Outlook opens when I try to open Mail, and that the OUtlook (new) I tried to uninstall is still there, It did not uninstall).

    I won't be using this computer much if I have to use a browser to send mail.

    There is a batch file called 'OutlookRemover' that you need to download on your PC to get rid of the new Outlook and permanently restore the Mail and Calendar app. You can download the batch file here from GitHub. Next, unpack the ZIP file and run the outlook.bat batch file as an admin. And that's pretty much everything that's required of you to bring back the Mail and Calendar app 

    This script prevents the Outlook (new) app from installing by installing a custom blank app with the same package id as the original one, thus making it´s installation fail. To do this, it enables the developer mode via registry and registers the modified New Outlook manifest as an unpacked Appx package.

    Click on "(New Outlook) remover 0.95" to download zip file on GitHub

    When you download the zip file extract it and run Outlook.bat file as administrator (right click on file and "run as administrator")

    I am not sure how much longer I am willing to waste time to keep Mail up and running the next time this happens. Hopefully this works for a long while. This starting to fell too much like pirating software. That's almost the allure to this. I am too stubborn to give up. I am sure I would be far happier with Thunderbird and save time, but what is the fun in that.

    You are absolutley right about it feeling like pirating software now. The lengths we need to go to so that we can use the software WE LEGITIMATLEY PAID FOR is beyond absurdity.

    I also agree with your final statement. I too, believe I would be better off using thunderbird 🤣🤣.
