In the outlook search bar "Search <0w>" appears

In the outlook search bar "Search <0w>" appears instead of a plain "Search". The search works fine but this <0W> is annoying. How can I delete it and why it appeared suddenly?

    Hello.

    Today my Outlook updated from build 17726.20126 to build 17726.20160, but the problem is still there...

    I imagine that Microsoft programmers are working hard to solve this bug... 🤣🤣🤣

    As I mentioned before the problem appears here on a Windows 10 (up to date) Laptop and a Windows 11 desktop PC installation.

    There is no special Antivirus apart from standard Microsoft defender.

    No self installed add-ins.

    What would be the manual update procedure?

    Hi Luca Marci:

    I assume HalMarston meant opening MS Outlook [or any other Microsoft Office Click-to-Run (C2R) program], going to File | Office Account | Update Options, and choosing "Update Now". However, HalMarston is the only Microsoft 365 or MS Office 2016 / 2019 / 2021 C2R user I know of that was able to fix the "Search <0w>" in their Outlook search box this way. Image

    Unfortunately, there is a known but unrelated bug in the latest MS Office Version 2406 / Build 17726.20126 (Current Channel, rel. 26-Jun-2024) where many users who try a manual update this way now see a "Something Went Wrong" error 30088-27. Microsoft is aware of this bug and is investigating - see Prius 04’s 02-Jul-2024 topic Microsoft 365 Update Error 30088-27 for ongoing status updates.

    Be aware that there is a method to force an update or roll back to any version of Microsoft 365 or MS Office 2016 / 2019 / 2021 C2R by entering a command in an elevated command prompt with Administrator rights. Step-by-step instructions are available in Diane Poremski’s Uninstall Updates in Office ‘Click to Run*’* on the slipstick.com site.

    For example, to roll back a C2R edition of MS Office for Windows down to Version 2405 / Build 17628.20164 (released 19-Jun-2024) you would temporarily disable automatic updating at File | Office Account | Update Options and then enter the command :

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17628.20164
