Hi,

I have a PC with windows 11 and Office 365. I have installed the New Teams on it.
the user cannot create a teams meeting from outlook calendar.

When I looked for the add-in Options>Add-ins, I didnt see the add-in there, not even in the inactive or the disabled.

The add-in is installed when I looked in %AppData\local\microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddin..

I tried to uninstall Teams but again same problem.

I took the plugin from a PC that can launch teams meetings from outlook and put it in the folder of the PC that cant and it worked for a day now its not.

thank you

The following solution has worked for us:

    1. create Applocker exception for MicrosoftTeamsMeetingAddinInstaller.msi
    2. close Teams via system tray
    3. close Outlook
    4. uninstall Teams Meeting Addin
    5. start teams 2.0 - then "microsoft teams meeting add-in for microsoft office" appears in the installed apps
    6. start outlook

unfortunately we do not have a solution that we can distribute on a large scale via sccm/intune. however, we have also noticed that the problem has only occurred sporadically and hope that the applocker exception will solve the problem before the big rollout. at the moment both teams are distributed.

What about the organizations that block per-user installs with this policy:
    Prohibit User Installs (admx.help)

In the case where orgs block user based msi installs, this automated install per user of the meeting addin is blocked. The orgs that have done this are not going to suddenly reverse course and remove this policy just to allow the teams meeting addin to install, and update on whatever cadence MS decides.

And, any mention of installing this manually as a per-machine install with ALLUSERS=1 is just asking for trouble. Sure - it might work right now, but the plugin will never auto-update this way. You'll always be waiting for that first set of tickets to start getting generated that it's not working, to find out you need to separately push another update to the addin MSI again. (This is why MS made it per-user after all... so they could update it along with teams at whatever cadence they deem fit).

What's the real way out here?

    Registry key when blocked:

    Registry Hive HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Registry Path Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
    Value Name DisableUserInstalls
    Value Type REG_DWORD
    Value 1

    Hi Kenny
We uninstalled Teams Machine wide installer, which also uninstalled Teams Classic. We also uninstalled the Microsoft teams addin.

Then we installed the NEW 64 bit Teams msix and restarted the computer. Teams addin worked correctly.

However on some machines it still says the teams addin is disabled in the slow coms addins even though it was working correctly.
We think this is a legacy registry setting and can be cleared.

    Thank you, Gabriel.

The instructions to toggle to classic and then back to new Teams does give us another option for handling the issue.

Does uninstalling classic Teams always "de-register" the Teams Meeting add-in, and if so, can it just leave the add-in alone if it was installed by (or bundled with) new Teams?

What is Microsoft's plan for classic Teams after March 31? Are they going to uninstall classic Teams in a future update, for example?

    Thank you.
