Why I cant add new email account in new outlook but in old it works?

Thank you, Microsoft, for this utterly nonsensical change in your licensing application. This was the final push I needed to stop using Hosted Exchange for my domain and my wifes domain.

Been using Hosted Exchange for years. Been really happy with it. But the cost keeps increasing, by removing the Hosted Exchange licensing forced us to adopt Microsoft 365 Business Basic, costing about twice the amount for adding features we never use. The licensing cost keeps increasing almost yearly for no apparent reason.

I've been sticking with it as I prefer Exchange Active Sync over IMAP.IDLE as it handles notifications better. When reading an e-mail on one device, the notification isn't stuck on other devices.

But this finally pushed me to reconsider. We are forced to pay for Microsoft 365 Business Basic twice, just because me and my wife have two different domains. The cost is immense, considering how we use the service. And you keep on bundling additional stuff to increase the price, even though these features has no value to us.

Locking us out of "New Outlook" even though we already pay for access to desktop applications via Microsoft 365 Family, and we both also have desktop applications licensed through our employer, is beyond stupid. This is nickle and diming at it's finest. Requiring you to have a license allowing for desktop application per mailbox instead of the application level is infuriating, to say the least.

Just moved us both from Hosted Exchange / Microsoft 365 over to iCloud+ as we already have this option as part of our Apple One Family subscription. The move was easy, the functionality is pretty much the same, and notifications are working great as Apple doesn't rely on IMAP.IDLE for notifications. This saves us a lot of money per year.

And to just make it all even more silly, guess what? We can utilise "New Outlook" without any issues as it supports adding e-mails from iCloud. So by removing our Microsoft 365 Business Basic subscriptions and moving our e-mail from Hosted Exchange / Microsoft 365 over to iCloud+, we save money, and we are allowed to use "New Outlook".

Hey there - you could probably reduce cost at least a bit - you can host multiple domains in one account so you could potentially cut that cost in half there.. and if you don't need any of the features you can ditch business basic in favor of exchange online plan 1 which is 4 per account per month.

Sounds like you already made the switch but something to consider should you decide to move back in the future.

I have the same problem, however I have a PC and two laptops, all using same software and accounts. All running Windows 11 latest version, same user and M365 login an all, and all running Office 2016 Home & Business. My M365 accounts are Business Basic

The PC and 1 laptop work fine with the new Outlook, yet the other laptop gets the error message.

So I believe it is a PC or PC configuration issue not necessarily a new Outlook issue.

Same situation here. I have been using the new outlook as a replacement for desktop on two computers for months and one of the accounts provided by a company to whom I consult have worked fine with the new version. I retired one of the computers and set up the new computer. The "old" desktop Outlook loaded all accounts fine but when I opted to switch over to the new outlook, one of the accounts can't be added because of the licensing issue. Colour me puzzled when the account still functions fine on two other computers, but not on the new one. Same Windows 11 version.

It just boggles the mind that MS still doesn't have it right. I've been using MailBird for the last couple of months, and couldn't be happier. EVERYTHING just works... all my accounts working, check...a visual indicator of an account syncing as well as a button to initiate it, check.. functionality with Yahoo mail, check. MS has to do better than with just Windows and office. Other than those two items, I'm using Google solutions for almost everything else.... except GMail... it works, I just don't like how it works.

Somehow I managed to activate Old Outlook on Windows11 and all my emails are now working. I can’t remember how I did it because I spent 7 days trying different things. I just ignore New Outlook.

I would recommend users to stick with Windows 10. I got a new laptop and it came with 11 and I hate it.
