I am trying the New Outlook. I cant sort my inbox by typing a letter - am I missing a setting?

I am trying the New Outlook. I used to be able to sort my inbox by column (FROM) and then type in a letter and quickly get to all emails from people starting with that letter. For me that was a quick way to navigate my emails. It does not seem to work like that now. Is there a setting that I am missing or did Microsoft take that out in the new version? I understand that the search bar can be used and filters can be used, but I want the one letter search functionality that I have been using.

2024-07-05T00:27:34+00:00 Billy, I agree. The lack of contrast between read and unread messages is a problem. I don't mind the layout changes in the new Outlook, but visually, I find the appearance of the inbox hard to use. Even the basic option that are provided do not help.
The one feature I like on the new Outlook is the ability to pin messages. But I'm going back to old Outlook for now. Visually, I just can't cope with the appearance of the inbox.

2024-07-17T14:03:55+00:00 Just use prefix "from:" or "to:.." and the then the name in the search bar. Not as convenient as just typing the letter but works for me.

2024-07-17T15:50:06+00:00 This is a critical misstep. I have always had and used this functionality. Please move this to the top of the critical list on features to be resolved.
