I am trying the New Outlook. I used to be able to sort my inbox by column (FROM) and then type in a letter and quickly get to all emails from people starting with that letter. For me that was a quick way to navigate my emails. It does not seem to work like that now. Is there a setting that I am missing or did Microsoft take that out in the new version? I understand that the search bar can be used and filters can be used, but I want the one letter search functionality that I have been using.

The only reason I switched to the new Outlook was that the old one is broken on my computer. The new one is utterly frustrating to use. Decades of old tools and abilities can't be used. Garbage, with no fixes on the horizon?
Any update on this?? It's really a deal breaker.
The new outlook is just terrible! What's the point of new one when the old one works much better and user friendly? so frustrating... are the people work on the new outlook never uses the old one!?! Sorry for the venting
This is a critical misstep. I have always had and used this functionality. Please move this to the top of the critical list on features to be resolved.
Just use prefix "from:" or "to:.." and the then the name in the search bar. Not as convenient as just typing the letter but works for me.
