I am trying the New Outlook. I cant sort my inbox by typing a letter - am I missing a setting?

I am trying the New Outlook. I used to be able to sort my inbox by column (FROM) and then type in a letter and quickly get to all emails from people starting with that letter. For me that was a quick way to navigate my emails. It does not seem to work like that now. Is there a setting that I am missing or did Microsoft take that out in the new version? I understand that the search bar can be used and filters can be used, but I want the one letter search functionality that I have been using.

    Two things that make 'new outlook' a deal breaker for me (and they were the first things I tried because I use them all the time).

    1. a selected item in the inbox does not keep focus when I change the sort from received date to send-from. I like to be able to select an email and change the sort so that I can easily see eveerything from that sender. Instead the focus was removed so that my inbox just restorted and left my view at the top, looking at a sender that starts with "1".
    2. Related to the above: when I sort by sender and start typing, it doesn't jump to that sender like it always has.

    The new outlook looks nice, please let me know when you fix these very functional features that I'm sure many of your users depend on to be effective.

    Same query as above - would like to sort emails quickly by hitting the first letter of the senders name. Annoying that this is not available as it was my 'go-to' for searching emails, especially when on a minimal inbox view. Often the main thing you can recall about an email is who it was from! so this is the major search function.

    Please can this be added asap!

    Would also be good to combine accounts into a single inbox (as can be done on the phone).

    Can't agree more....was looking into this as well and came across this forum page.

    Back to the old outlook I guess.
