How do I add a background picture to the "Modern" theme in the new outlook that replaces the older mail app?

I came in this morning to an update and I checked the box to import my settings and preferences. But did it do that - NO! Instead I got a glaring white inbox (I use the dark mode) with the reading pane on the right (I put it at the bottom) and my calendar, to-do list, and favorite contacts (the to-do bar) are all gone (haven't figured out how to bring that to-do bar back yet). I also can't get my shared email accounts to let me in, so that's cool, and I'll have to contact my IT department to see why it won't let me in (I provide the log-in credentials, but they don't work).

When customizing the theme, there are a few that I did actually like, but when I saw there was an option to add my own background "for further customization" I immediately was thrilled. (Didn't know you could do that before or I would have been this whole time!) But like everyone else, I can't figure out how/where to do that. Obviously they meant for us to be able to, just gave **** instructions on how, or didn't full implement the feature and someone forgot to go back into this menu to edit the text we see.

The response we received from Microsoft in this thread tells me they absolutely don't know what's going on. This isn't a feature we're asking for - we're asking for Microsoft to provide instructions on how to use a feature that they're already telling us we should be able to use.

GOD I just want to use Linux and be done with it. All of this locked-down proprietary **** just drives me nuts.

Same issue. The fact that it's really as basic as changing whatever file this draws from is maddening.

This is why I hate outlook. It's the most used platform in the business community and they can't make it do the simplest of tasks and keep it buggy as all hell.

Very happy I am not the only one! Still no update, but at least we're keeping this alive!

Just this morning it once again auto updated me to the new app and asked for "how likely are you to recommend". I put a 1 not very likely. then it asked why. Obviously for this reason. Then I switched back. and It asked why... So once again... this reason.

All I want to do is change the background picture. I want to add some personality to my boring office day!

Keeping this thread alive after i found it, same issue, this is just flat false advertising.

Is it really that hard to display a jpeg in the background? As a programmer myself I'm just disappointed.
