How do I add a background picture to the "Modern" theme in the new outlook that replaces the older mail app?

I just had to switch from g-suite to outlook for my school account and I've just discovered this rather glaring issue. Not sure how effective commenting on a thread like this is, but I find it pretty odd that such a major platform as Microsoft doesn't allow you to use a custom image for the background/theme. Hopefully that will change in January as people have mentioned.

This is still frustrating as of 12/19/2023. I didn't want to make the switch in the first place, but they've added insult to injury with this whole customization situation (or the lack thereof). They either need to remove the information on the page that says you can change the picture or actually make that feature available.

I have this wallpaper in my old Outlook that reminds me not to literally ****. Right now I get to see it everyday.

If I am forced to update to this new Outlook in 16 days that message will be gone.

This would not be such an issue if it were not named so dumbly.

The way this is written, "for further customisation" certainly implies that yo vna then "further" configure the background image. I assumed it would then use the image's colours for the application.

So in there ever growing wisdom of what we require without asking us, they force yet another change on us that we must lean all over again, and now we find that the things we took for granted have been removed and now we must have a neutral screen or some pale mountains, seriously where is what the client wants, I cant even get all of my email accounts working properly on this mickey mouse email engine, but lets end support for the one that works before getting the new one up to scratch, like they are doing with windows 11, over my dead body will I be changing to windows 11.

I think they forget that we use these things for work and such, and we don't want to have to relearn how to do something which is costing us money and time that we used to know because they decided to change the layout or function of things.

And what the hell is with the forced ads showing up at the top of the inboxes now, how long before we and up with video ads being played every 15mins.

MICROSOFT get your act together and start listening to what your users want, rather than telling them what they are getting, your starting to really annoy your users where speaking for myself, am actually considering changing platform.
