How do I add a background picture to the "Modern" theme in the new outlook that replaces the older mail app?

In the old Mail app I was able to add a custom background image. Since that app is going away I now have to use this version. the "modern" theme has a picture of a snow covered landscape. The options are that or nothing. There is no way to change the picture or add a picture of my choosing, even though the description says "Modern themes allow you to add a background image for further customization". How do I change this image, or add an image of my own?

    That new picture was an assault on my eyes. There is no way to customize it (despite stating that it can be customized). I was able to select a plan grey instead of the pink and purple mountains.

    Microsoft probably won't implement fixes based on posts here (this is for "answers"), and unfortunately it looks like @KingRidgehead's feedback link only works for Windows Insiders. Here's the Feedback request for those of us on non-Insider Windows: https://aka.ms/AAoy16q

    The best way to get MS to fix this is to vote up feedback on it.

    Keeping this thread alive after i found it, same issue, this is just flat false advertising.

    Is it really that hard to display a jpeg in the background? As a programmer myself I'm just disappointed.
