This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school

I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."

This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.

P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

As I have mentioned in my previous post: my @outlook.com account is associated to a Microsoft 365 Family subscription, with the desktop version of the entire Office Suite. In the meantime my two other accounts were upgraded to Microsoft Business Basic and it still isn't working.

I have the same client version as you:

Now I need to know if it actually works with Exchange Online (Plan 1) as well, and I don't need to the more expensive Business Basic licenses, which you confirmed.

Perhaps its because your primary account is licenced as business premium which is the highest possible subscription? I only have a home account for my primary Microsoft account and I do not intend to increase the subscription just to enable my second email address. There is only me, myself and I using it at all times so that would be a total waste of money! I pay for my second email address through GoDaddy which corresponds with the .au domain I purchased through them, hence it becomes classed as a 'work' email which is not permitted without an upgrade in licencing.

All in all, it's all about more money, more money! I've been using Microsoft office for years, there was no such thing as subscriptions in those days, these were introduced by big tech to FORCE people to pay out on a regular basis for the use of their software. When everything was on disc, you had a CHOICE to upgrade and IF you wanted to, you bought the new version outright.

The only option i can think of trying to incorporate my second email address onto Outlook desktop is to transfer it away from GoDaddy to another server so it's removed from the 365 licence. Perhaps that may then work, I really don't know. Alternatively i just move to another emailing platform. If i do that i would drop my Microsoft Office subscription altogether, there are plenty of decent free alternatives for Word and spreadsheets. For now I'm using the previous outlook version on which my second email still functions. It's familiar to me so I guess i will just stay with that as long as I'm able to.

I switched back to my old Outlook and now I can no longer connect my two email addresses, because I am now greeted with this nice message:

I see a similar message when I try to add the accounts through the Windows 10 settings, could off course be a transient problem @ Microsoft, but this would be coincidence, no?

People, you are wasting your time.

Microsoft have you by the short and curlys and they know it.

Subscription price of business basic went from £3.80 (GBP) to £4.50 then to £4.90. now they are forcing 12 month contract unless you pay another 20% making it £5.88. same percentage increases on other packages. If you are a partner (reseller, even just a small indirect reseller) then they come after you if your client goes bump. The partner is on the hook for paying out the rest of the contract.

At the same time, they are forcing you to have licenses that you don't want, as in this very discussion here, and also in the case of office apps (word/excel) being signed-in to a secondary account that has business basic - accessing files on OneDrive for example. They are forcing you to pay for the full license for every single account even if all on the same computer and the same person, and at these massively inflated prices.

And the problem is.. there is no negotiation. You have no voice at all. It's take it or leave it. Google aren't any better really.

It's time to ditch them altogether. Go back to basics. IMAP mail or SoGo or something, libre office, back up your data with Kopia and Backblaze instead of OneDrive. Just say NO.

Well said Carl, 100% spot on.
I have a dozen customers who would run away from Microsoft if they could break the chains.

MicroShaft think they are like the government and us peasants have to tithe to rent our 2 acres of land.

The irony is the products are getting worse and worse with each iteration.

Tried the "new New NEW Outlook" OMG what an ABOMINATION, an entire department needs sacking for ever thinking this was a viable product.

But I've been in this game long enough to see giants fall, remember IBM, DIGITAL, Honeywell, Alta Vista, Jeeves, Lotus, etc.
