This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school

I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."

This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.

P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

Totally completely agree with you. I spoke to MS support about this yesterday and they acknowledged the when switching to the new Outlook, if you use a MS Business Basic account it won't work. I weas told this "may" change as the app is still in preview mode. I was however told that if you activate the new Outlook with Standard or above, you can then add Business Basic accounts. So I did that - activated the new Outlook using an Enterprise licence I have. However when I then tried to activate several Business Basic licences I was met with the same error every time. So no choice but to revert back to the old Outlook for now until MS sort this ridiculous situation out. And agree - the fact that you can add a 3rd party account (e.g. Gmail) makes this even more farcical.

I have the same problem here, switch on "try the new outlook", my ******@outlook.com email account still in place and the system force me to remove my working account. which is ridiculous, i have paid this outlook apps with office365 package and my company paid for my email account with exchange license, so why I cannot use both together, means my company need transfer email to google?

anyway, i tried switch off "try the new outlook" seems my working email account came back, you may try that.

This is a mess. No reply from Microsoft, and this new Outlook is supposed to live in less than 2 months??

I think that situation is more than ridiculous, because Business Basic and corresponding licenses eg. A1 for Edu had no problem with using Classic Mail app for Windows. If New Outlook is planning to be basic mail app on Windows it's some kind of not funny joke, because those accounts work perfectly on Apple Mail in macOS or any mobile mail app. Moreover, huge number non-profit orgs and schools with "forced New Outlook" on their computers use those licenses and for them is really big trouble to switch to Thunderbird or any other mail app with less security features.

And still Business Basic is PAID subscription. Don't we deserve to be treated as regular guys who are using Gmail account?

Completely agreed with you. Or don't we deserve at least official answer from Microsoft? The way Microsoft treats us I think it will be better if we all switch to Google to punish Microsoft. Next time my company license goes to expire, I'll talk to my boss and will try to convince him to switch to Google instead.
