This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school

I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."

This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.

P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

    One of the reason this new license policy sucks is my emails are Microsoft Exchange emails via GoDaddy. The fact I'm paying to use an Exchange server, but can't see my email on more than one Outlook account, is the dumbest thing ever. I'm better off no longer using Microsoft products going forward.

    I think that the standard reply being received from Microsoft is absolutely reprehensible and is indicative of an absolutely shockingly bad customer service department. I find it hugely insulting when as a customer I take the time to send in a report or a complaint that clearly articulates my issue and I receive a follow up bog standard response to an issue that is not actually my issue, or ignores the nuisance my my specific case.

    Microsoft really needs to provide a clear and sensical response to this issue.

    It would really be helpful to understand what exactly Microsoft's intent it here and what their plan to action this issue is. As I understand it, Microsoft is trying to ensure that the new outlook app isn't used as a way for users to bypass the functionality of getting access to a desktop app when they use a basic business account.

    However, the issue explained here isn't a case of that:

    I am a Microsoft business standard client;

    I have the option of using the desktop app license because I am a business standard client;

    My own email loads, without issue, in the new outlook desktop client;

    I also have a gmail email address which can be managed through the app.

    I also work 2 days a week for another company and have an email address with them to which is uses a business basic account, but now can't access this email through the new outlook desktop app.

    There is a disconnect here:

    I am a Microsoft client, I pay for a specific service that I need (a unified email desktop client);

    My 2 day a week client provides me with a mail box, they shouldn't have to provide me with an email client as I supply my own equipment and already have paid for an email client of my own;

    My 2 day a week clients email box is specifically blocked in my email client by Microsoft, even though, I pay Microsoft for the email app and my client pays Microsoft for the mail service.

    I have always been able to access this business basic account via my licensed and paid for personal desktop, (along with a number of other mail boxes from other services)

    This is an extremely and important function of a paid for desktop mail application as it's used to manage all email and this is far better done through 1 application. Not having this functionality greatly reduces the benefit of the desktop application to the point where the desktop application would no longer be the mail application of choice. (There are many other options so I am not sure what Microsoft is attempting to achieve here. Is it somehow in their interest to drive their clients into actively looking for alternate products to the ones they are developing???)

    I agree that this is crazy. I have Microsoft E3 and am paying for desktop versions of the app with this account. I have multiple emails on other other M365 tenants that are using Microsoft Basic. Why should I have to pay for full desktop versions N+1 times just to have an email box show up in by Oulook Desktop? How is this going to work on my iPhone version of Outlook one might ask?

    It worked for me with a backup version of those files from a few months ago when it worked. Just copied these older files over to the new ones and I'm good now.

    Thank you for this workaround!
