I'm not able to add my work 365 basic account in this new Outlook anymore. I get this error: "This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school. Try to login with another account or go to Outlook on the web."

This is ridiculous that I'm able to add my personal Gmail, my personal Outlook email, but can't add my work account which my company pays money for. Now you want to charge us more by upgrading from basic to standard to able to use your new Outlook I see. I also noticed ads right in my Inbox in this new Outlook. Seriously? Ads too now? Well, it seems like you're very desperate lately dear Microsoft and using such enforcing brute tactics on us - users won't do good for you. It will have opposite effect in fact: Now I will tell my IT boss to switch to Google instead. And guess what? I won't be the only one doing this. You know what's your problem, Microsoft? You never listen and you never care about us. You just do what you want to do and it's all about squizzing money out of us while giving us worst products compared to other companies.

P.S. By the way, your new Outlook sucks and everything you give us lately sucks too.

    You could have been using an office license that was purchased with the pc when you signed into the m365 business basic account, and then when the ups rare happened you signed into your business basic license first, replacing the office license you originally had on your machine, making it so you can no longer use the outlook app any longer with your m365 basic license that only supports outlook for the web. This has happened to me with a few devices that came with office licenses for a year or some sort of package like that.

    Hi all!

    I came across this issue today. So long story short - I am administrator for a small company - 70 people and we buy Office Standard editions, so to have them once paid and live approach. Mail is hosted in O365 ecosystem and we use MS 365 Business Basic, that gives mail but no desktop app.

    So new employee rolled in, we bought Office 2024 Standard edition and employee started Outlook (NEW) and bumped into this error.

    So then I asked kindly user to start Outlook (Classic) and magic happened - user was able to connect to his mailbox with no issues, by passing MFA conditional access policies.

    So my solution for this was - Use Outlook (Classic) instead of Outlook (new)

    As I keep saying, it's like Microsoft are trying to drive away customers!

    It's so obvious that the people developing their software, never have to use it for productive business, and are completely devoid of any form of business experience.

    The old adage applies: "Common Sense is a rare commodity".

    There are serious bugs in Outlook that have been their for over decade, and yet they pi55 about with the toolbar and "Apps Bar".

    Don't get me started on the 5h!t show that is Outlook search!
    They make search changes, and it gets even worse, begs belief!

    Bottom line is this: Microsoft has two distinct eco-systems - consumer and business. Problem is that they use the SAME names for products in both and this causes ENDLESS amounts of confusion. Examples: Outlook and Outlook "new", Teams and Teams for Business, office.com and outlook.com (not the same but confusing for users), Skype and Skype for Business, etc, etc, etc

    I will NEVER understand the thought process behind this.

    Best I can tell is that Outlook "new" is just a crippled version of both Outlook and WIndows Mail that will not allow any corporate exchange O365 or M365 licensed email to be configured.

    Worse still; users are forced to switch from Windows Mail (which worked perfectly fine with all email types) because the Windows Mail icon is replaced with Outlook "new". Then they start the wizard/upgrade process and find out their work email won't work anymore. This is just BAD design and poor planning on Microsoft's part.

    I've received MANY calls from users who are frustrated by this.

    Get it together Microsoft!
