This account is not supported in Outlook for Windows due to the license provided by your work or school

Please take a moment to upvote that issue, and add your comments there. That way the issue is brought to light, and to the forefront of attention for everyone, including Microsoft.

As a personal aside, it's disappointing to see in some of these threads the misleading information that's being posted. Perhaps these individuals think they are helping, but as the two most recent posts above this reply highlight, the problem is not solved, and any solutions proposed by anyone thus far are either unworkable, or only address a small edge case.

Windows has always included a free email client. These smaller paid accounts have always been usable in those clients. In new Outlook, they're simply not. That's it! That's the issue.

Please, everyone, go upvote the core issue linked above. Get your friends, your co-workers, your bosses, your employees, get everyone to upvote and comment on the Feedback item. That is the only effective way to get Microsoft to see and understand the scope of their decision's effects on the world.

Yep, in same but... saw the 'Try New Outlook' toggle and was excited to see the preview... that didn't last long. I quickly noticed all my Exchange plans FROM MICROSOFT don't work! It was so bizarre I couldn't believe or comprehend this decision. I'm a web developer and have referred countless clients to use $4/month exchange plans, which are great and have seriously made me an ambassador for them... but if you can't even use this with their flagship product Outlook, what is the point? I switched back to the old Outlook and not going to upgrade my license, especially since I already pay for a 365 subscription AND exchange... mind boggling.

I've heard many people say that "Microsoft is not listening." That is partially true. They're not listening to this particular thread - this is a community/peer-support forum. You can see that even the original responders have checked out.

The reviews might get some traction, but they only go to the coders who actually wrote this abomination.

However, Microsoft DOES listen to, and DOES respond to, the items in their feedback portal - especially those that get lots of attention.

We've created a master item in that portal to cover all of these issues. Could everyone in this thread please go here:

And @dean03032 , although this isn't a fix, if you would consider accepting this as the "answer" to your thread, it will give more visibility, and point more people to the complaint in the feedback portal. The more upvotes we can get there, the faster we can get Microsoft's attention.

Now we get ads in Outlook too. So lovely :) I think it's really time to switch to Google folks. Microsoft is at their lowest part in their history.

I think that situation is more than ridiculous, because Business Basic and corresponding licenses eg. A1 for Edu had no problem with using Classic Mail app for Windows. If New Outlook is planning to be basic mail app on Windows it's some kind of not funny joke, because those accounts work perfectly on Apple Mail in macOS or any mobile mail app. Moreover, huge number non-profit orgs and schools with "forced New Outlook" on their computers use those licenses and for them is really big trouble to switch to Thunderbird or any other mail app with less security features.

And still Business Basic is PAID subscription. Don't we deserve to be treated as regular guys who are using Gmail account?
