Outlook crashes when I attempt to attach an email (.msg) to an outgoing email

I updated my computer this morning and now anytime I try and attach an email to an outgoing email, my entire Outlook crashes (before the email attaches and I get a chance to try and send the outgoing email). I've tried restarting Outlook and my computer. I have no problem attaching and sending other types of files. The issue is not limited to one particular email message I'm trying to attach or send -- I've tested the issue, and it has happened with all my tests or various email (.msg) attachments and outgoing emails.

I routinely attach emails from within my Outlook to my outgoing emails in Outlook, by dragging and dropping the email I want to attach to my outgoing email. This is the first time I'm having this issue. I imagine it may have something to do with the update I was forced to run this morning.

Any troubleshooting advice would be much appreciated. Thank you, all!

    Hi Eleni

    There have been several posts since you answered this saying it's an issue with build 2402. That's the version I have had since 22 Oct when I first experienced the crashing issue that Brianna started this post with. I've forced Office updates twice since then, the last being 5 mins ago but "classic" outlook still crashes. Here's my version:

    Should I revert to build 2401, as some have suggested - how do I do that?

    No solution that I've found. I've been having to switch from Classic Outlook to New Outlook anytime I need to attach an email. I revert back to Classic Outlook because there are too many other features I need, that are not in New Outlook. Sadly, this switching back and forth doesn't solve the dilemma of being able to save an email message locally (that can actually successfully be opened), which is another feature I regularly use.

    Hi folks,

    I have the same problem - After the last office update, outlook crashes every time I try and attach an email.

    The wierd thing is attaching a file to an email works fine, so it's specific to attaching another outlook message.

    I can reproduce this every time, and it happens regardless of whether I drag an drop an email into my outgoing message, or whether I try to insert the email from the menu (Insert => Outlook item).

    Troubleshooting steps I have tried:

    1. Restarted Outlook, restarted laptop, problem persists (still crashes).
    2. Ran outlook in safe mode, problem persists.
    3. Disabled all add-ons and restarted outlook, problem persists.
    4. Enabled "Try the new Outlook button" and problem persists (I have since reverted back to the old outlook as I prefer the look).
    5. Forced a new update, problem persists (build number increased from 16.0.17328.20068 to 16.0.17328.20108, but the version number remains 2402.).

    Does anybody have any idea how to fix this?

    I too am now getting complaints from users that can't' attached .msg's to emails.

    The new outlook is missing a few features from the previous version. It also doesn't seem to use the traditional Mail Setup - Outlook utility, (but I need to investigate that more). There needs to be a separate conversation thread on the New Outlook Experience.
