Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Everyone: 2402 is not working
Microsoft: Naw, you're good bro

I updated my computer this morning and now anytime I try and attach an email to an outgoing email, my entire Outlook crashes (before the email attaches and I get a chance to try and send the outgoing email). I've tried restarting Outlook and my computer. I have no problem attaching and sending other types of files. The issue is not limited to one particular email message I'm trying to attach or send -- I've tested the issue, and it has happened with all my tests or various email (.msg) attachments and outgoing emails.
I routinely attach emails from within my Outlook to my outgoing emails in Outlook, by dragging and dropping the email I want to attach to my outgoing email. This is the first time I'm having this issue. I imagine it may have something to do with the update I was forced to run this morning.
Any troubleshooting advice would be much appreciated. Thank you, all!

Was able to fix this by reloading the Outlook profile's local app data. Close Outlook, open task manager and make sure OUTLOOK.EXE isn't running or it will prevent you from touching its app data. Go to the affected user's local appdata folder and into the Microsoft folder from there: C:\users\USERNAME\appdata\local\Microsoft. Within that folder rename the "Outlook" folder to something like "Outlook.old" and then relaunch office. It will create a new "Outlook" folder and recreate all of the profile data in there. It's worth noting that it will reload ALL of their mail as if it were a new profile, most users don't mind much, but if there's any problems with that after testing it just kill Outlook again and rename the "Outlook.old" folder back to "Outlook" and it will load the original profile like nothing ever happened. If for some reason you still can't edit the "Outlook" folder even though the OUTLOOK.EXE process has been terminated, kill all other office programs and all instances of OfficeClickToRun.exe and it should let you edit the folder--rare side issue but I've seen it a number of times and figured it was worth noting.
It seems they may have pushed an update in the last 30 minutes of me looking into this issue as we've had several users report this issue.
Version 2402 build number 17328.20108 was the confirmed build that this was still an issue, but I ran an update and am currently on build 17328.20142 and this is no longer an issue.
Have your clients that are experiencing this run an update and make sure they're on 20142, should be fixed.
Hello Brianna,
Thank you for posting this case in the Microsoft Community!
Based on your description: Outlook crashes when I attempt to attach an email (.msg) to an outgoing email. I would like to cooperate with you to work on this case. To clarify this case, please kindly provide us with your Outlook version with product details by going to New Outlook>Settings>General>About Outlook or Classic Outlook>File>Office Account and sharing that entire page screenshot with hidden personal information. What version of Outlook do I have?
To further analysis, I did further from my side no matter using New Outlook(1.2024.207.500 (Production)) & (Client Version is 20240209002.12) and Classic Outlook(2401(Build 17231.20236 Click-to-Run)), it seems that everything is working fine to send email with attached (.msg) email file normally. For my suggestion, you may check your Outlook version if upgraded and see this article for more version information Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date) - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn.
Please provide more useful information as well as Outlook version details for further assistance, please feel free to let me know, and I will keep assisting you.**Note:**We need to identify if this case is related to specific Outlook version updates that cause the issue, if yes, it will be reported to the backend product team to fix this case.
Your understanding and patience will be appreciated.

Hi, I had this same issue with a few of my users. I can confirm it's version 2402. I had two different patch versions of it, and had the same issue. I moved my tenant back to the Enterprise Update channel (instead of the Current channel) to prevent other users from getting this update and then I used the Office Offline Installer to get back to the 2401 version (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/use-the-office-offline-installer-f0a85fe7-118f-41cb-a791-d59cef96ad1c) and it works fine again on my users systems. I did not try the 2403 beta version to see if that fixes it or not.
