NEW Outlook app: how to add an IMAP account with user name different from email address?

It turns out I had Office 365 with the old Outlook on my computer - so I'm using that with Windows 10. They're discontinuing "Old Outlook" - but not before Windows 10 expires. I figured I'll deal with the whole thing in October 2025.

Meanwhile - on my Linux box, even though I hate the UI, Thunderbird with the TB Sync extension is working decently. You have to add the Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) plugin to TB Sync for Windows Live calendars, but once you have it setup, you don't have to mess with it. Not my preferred solution - but there you go. This may be my ultimate solution after October 2025 - not sure yet.

UPDATE: TB Sync users are reporting issues as of March 6th with Outlook Calendar integration. This may not be a solution anymore. Thunderbird can still get mail from Outlook servers - but lack of calendar integration would make it a no-go. Investigations ongoing.

That only works for "old" Outlook - i.e. Outlook 365.

The new Outlook - i.e. Outlook for the Cloud - ignores those settings.

I will retest - but - this method has not worked previously.

I tried it to add an account by using the menu from the control panel.

There are more fields, like an IMAP username, but adding an account is not connected to the new Outlook, and didn't helped me.

I could solve my problem with a setting from the email provider called "Easy-Mail-Login".

By changing this in the email provider settings, it allows me to use the emailadress instead of the username.

With this for me it was possible to add my email accounts in the new outlook.
