The advanced configuration will allow me to specify an SMTP user name but there is no way to configure the IMAP user name being different from the email-address.

After heavily pushing Outlook New its embarrassing that they don't even have basic setting like Name for IMAP users.
Trash @Microsoft.
Open command prompt (cmd.exe), change directory to where outlook.exe is located (C:\program files\microsoft office\root\office16), run> outlook.exe /manageprofiles
This will bring up the old dialogue for setting up email accounts...
Isn't this the same dialog as you get from Control Panel->Mail (Microsoft Outlook)?
Not sure how this will help me. I think I tried this a long time ago and can access my personal IMAP account in the old outlook but still not in new outlook.
I have (old) Microsoft Outlook running for my work mail but I wanted to run (or at least test) new outlook for my personal mail.
Anyway, I have moved on from this and given up on new outlook and now only accessing both my work mail and my personal mail with online services (outlook.office.com (office 365?) for work and email service from my isp for my personal IMAP account.

As of the start of this thread, Microsoft DON'T CHANGE the IMAP authentication process.
Are the changes to be made too complex for Microsoft developers ?
Why not listen to user complaints ?
In the same way, my Thunderbird (latest version) fail to send messages with my PROFESSIONNAL email (no OAUTH SMTP)...
Did Microsoft want us to move to another providers ?
As of November 1st, 2024 - this is still an issue with no workaround. Is this on schedule to be fixed before Windows Mail is EOL'd?
If not - as much as it breaks my heart - I will be forced to use Thunderbird, which implements the IMAP protocol correctly.
