NEW Outlook app: how to add an IMAP account with user name different from email address?

I was able to do this via the control panel "Mail" option. I was not able to configure this via just adding an account inside of Outlook.

To be very, very clear - you were able to add a custom IMAP login name for Outlook (New) via the control panel Mail option???

Previously - that has only worked for Outlook 365 (aka outlook old).

If this is true - what version of windows were you using? This still isn't possible with Outlook (new) and Windows 10 for me.

Where the IMAP login is "jsmith" - not "******@mail.com". With Outlook for Windows (aka Outlook (new)), there still doesn't appear to be a way to use an IMAP login that isn't an email address.

You are right! I also can't understand why the new Outlook doesn't support IMAP - unbelievable!

But just using classic Outlook (Outlook 365) solves your problem.

But - only until April 2026, unless you have special licenses.

Understood - but we don't believe you're using IMAP on Outlook (new). That is not wired to the control panel on Windows 10.

The behavior you're describing is current functionality for Outlook (old) aka Outlook 365 on Windows 10.

These are different email programs with different setups.

Either that - or this is new Windows 11 behavior.

Can you provide more information about your version of Windows?
