NEW Outlook app: how to add an IMAP account with user name different from email address?

Still no fix as of Nov 7th, 2024. Now only a few weeks until Microsoft Mail & Calendar will be permanently disabled. In addition to the loss of IMAP email we also lose Microsoft Calendar, and with no obvious way to export appointments for use in a different calendar app I can see more uneccessary pain for users having to manually input. all their one-off & recurring appointments.

I don't believe Microsoft are unaware of the problems caused by defaulting IMAP usernames to the email address, so I have to conclude they are simply unwilling to fix the issue whilst still disabling Mail & Calendar for affected users. Such arrogance.

I had the same issue. I was able to get round the issue of a different logon id to the email address by setting the account up in control panel -> mail settings and adding the account there where it allowed a different user name

I also had another issue - the set up now insists on sending a test mail successfully. Unfortunately the mail sever I was using requires a mail pick up before sending. Of course setup doesn't do this. I got round this issue by ensuring I was logged on via webmail first and then doing the mail set up.

I really hate Microsoft.

1. Force me to new outlook by disable the old Mail.
2. using email as username , not let people configure .

The outsouce all the software work and they force shitware on us.

Well - that's it. Got the final announcement in Windows Mail that services have been disconnected. Still no IMAP fix.

So - just uninstalled Windows Mail, Windows Calendar and Outlook (new). (Update - had to uninstall People as well)

I'll be using Thunderbird with TB sync extension for my Hotmail and Live accounts from here on out.

Sorry Microsoft - it's been a good run Windows Mail. I'll miss you.

The lack of IMAP settings options in the New Outlook causes duplicates of my e-mails in the SENT ITEMS folder. Normally, there should be an option for IMAP to uncheck "Save a Copy of Sent Messages on the Server". But, alas, this setting is nowhere to be found in this dumbed-down e-mail client.
